We had a full house last night as 1st, 2nd, and 3rd graders performed their musical review entitled, A Small Part of the World, showcasing folk songs from around the world. The concert featured a 3rd grade soloist and multiple narrators. Students performed several movements and had multiple props from different countries as they sang. A big shout out to Marcy Lindert and Andrea Whitney for their creativity in directing over 130 students. Here’s a clip of the finale song. Sometimes I have no strong feelings about whether or not a book is better on audio or on paper. I went into this book expecting a creepy thriller, what I got was so much more, a touching love story, a fantastic atmosphere and secrets around every corner. This audiobook reminded me of why I really enjoy multiple narrators, the way Raphael Corkhill and Shakira Shute play off of each other is brilliant and I loved it. I do find myself wondering what happens next and I'm almost at the point of hoping we'll get another book in this fantastic world. 📖It’s been a while since I wrote about a specific book (thanks, algorithm 🫠), but I just finished The Woman in White by Wilkie Collins and I can’t stop thinking about it. It was written in 1859, and it’s considered one of the first mystery novels ever published. The story is told through multiple narrators, starting with a moonlit encounter with a mysterious woman dressed in white and slowly unravels into a web of secrets, mistaken identities, inheritance plots, and one of the most delightfully evil villains I’ve ever read: Count Fosco. 🐀✨ Fosco is magnetic, intelligent, theatrical, and utterly untrustworthy. He feeds birds from his pockets and adores his pet mice, all while plotting absolute mayhem with a calm, sinister smile. Somehow, he steals every scene he’s in. I couldn’t get enough of him. The writing is sharp and elegant, and the pacing makes it so hard to put down. Page after page, I was completely pulled in. The characters are vivid, the stakes are real, and somehow it’s both atmospheric and suspenseful without needing any cheap tricks. It will keep the listener entertained and on their toes listening for the different characters or story changes. I also found it easy to skip to a story that appealed to me at the moment and easily find my way back from where I started within the book chapters. The Wish Bridge, Chaos Theory, and A Year in January are my favorites from this collection. Chaos Theory was a real challenge for me to figure out at first as the multiverse plotline is new to me.
