Liftoff. The Artemis II mission launches from @NASAKennedy at 6:35 p.m. EDT (2235 UTC), propelling four astronauts on a journey around the Moon. Artemis II will pave the way for future Moon landings, as well as the next giant leap — astronauts on Mars. Credit: NASA #Liftoff #Launch #Artemis #Moon #Astronauts

Buckle up, because the Artemis II flight path is basically the ultimate cosmic rollercoaster🎢 Instead of a straight shot, NASA is sending four astronauts on a “hybrid free-return trajectory.” They’ll whip around Earth to gain speed, then use the Moon’s gravity like a giant slingshot to hurl themselves back home. No engine burns for the return trip—just pure orbital mechanics and vibes. #artemis #moon #fyp #nasa #space

NASA is increasing the cadence of future Artemis missions. The Artemis III mission, now in 2027, will be designed to test out systems and operational capabilities in low Earth orbit as preparation for an Artemis IV landing in 2028. This new mission will endeavor to include a rendezvous and docking with one or both commercial landers from SpaceX and Blue Origin. This change will accelerate the flight rate of the Artemis missions and enable a safer and more reliable launch cadence. There will be no changes to the Artemis II mission. In this video, we see a timelapse of the Artemis II rocket and spacecraft rolling back to the Vehicle Assembly Building at @NASAKennedy atop of the crawler-transporter on Wednesday, Feb. 25. Teams will conduct work and repairs on the Artemis II vehicle before returning it to Launch Pad 39B to launch on its crewed mission around the Moon no earlier than April 2026. Artemis II has officially launched. For the first time since Apollo, humans are heading back around the Moon, as Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch, and Jeremy Hansen begin NASA’s first crewed Artemis mission aboard SLS and Orion. This roughly 10-day test flight is a huge step toward returning astronauts to the lunar surface. 📸 John Howard for Cosmoknowledge

A Giant Leap for Humanity, A Prayer for Peace 🕊️🌍 The fiery descent is over. The silence of the void has been replaced by the rhythm of the tides. 09:07 PM BST: The Orion capsule has returned, carrying more than just a crew—it carries the shared hopes of 8 billion people. After journeying 220,000 miles through the lunar night, surviving 5,000°F of atmospheric fire, and accelerating at 25,000 mph, we are reminded of one simple truth: no matter how far we reach into the stars, our home will always be this fragile, blue marble. In a world often divided, space remains a bridge. This mission proves that when we look up together, we can overcome the impossible. Let this splashdown be a symbol of a new era—one where the same ingenuity used to conquer the abyss is used to foster peace on the ground. Reid, Victor, Christina, and Jeremy are safely in the Pacific. Artemis II is complete. The path to the Moon is open, but the mission for a better, more united Earth continues. 👨🚀👩🚀🏆 Mission Status: HOME. Safe. Together. 🌊✨🌑📡🌍🌅 #ArtemisII #NASA #OneWorld #PeaceOnEarth #Humanity

🌍 NASA’s DART Mission & The Future of Planetary Defense 🚀 NASA’s DART mission (Double Asteroid Redirection Test) was the world’s first real test of planetary defense. In 2022, the spacecraft deliberately crashed into an asteroid called Dimorphos to see if we could change its orbit. And it worked — proving that humanity can, in fact, push an asteroid off its collision course with Earth. This is only the beginning of planetary defense. Future systems could include: Stronger impactors to deal with bigger asteroids. Nuclear-powered deflection methods for emergencies of asteroid impact. Early-warning telescopes to detect space rocks decades before they threaten us. International planetary defense networks, where countries work together to protect Earth. The DART mission was humanity’s first step in becoming a planet defender — showing that one small spacecraft can change the fate of the world. 🎯Follow @go_atomico for ATOMICO’s curious adventures through Space and Time, and learn more about astronomy and astrophysics along the way.
