While there are countless pros to growing native plants there are also a lot of cons…APRIL FOOLS! We can’t think of any here! Native plants are beautiful, low-maintenance once established, drought tolerant, provide food and habitat to pollinators and wildlife, restore ecosystems, clean the air and water, and much more! Why do you plant native plants? 🌿 #aprilfools #nativeplants

Comment LIST to get a list of my favorite native plants Here’s a few for your starter native plant garden: coneflower baptisia anise hyssop rudbeckia coreopsis Comment LIST to get the full list and start planting a Native Plant Garden with me this summer

We replaced a pointless turf island at a local park with hundreds of native wildflowers. Within a year, many species of bees, butterflies, moths, and other insects have returned, including some that are declining. Thanks to a grant from the Pennsylvania Native Plant Society (@panativeplantsociety), my non-profit eco-restoration group (@communitycanopyproject) was able to implement this project at a local township park. I hope this inspires you to do something similar on your property or within your community! #Pennsylvania #nativeplants #native #plants #plantnative #wildflowers #gardening #pollinators #savethebees #flowers #bumblebee #ecologicalrestoration #ecology

When I started out with native plant seven years ago, all I was prioritizing was the sun requirements of a plant. I have learned how much it is also so important to know the soil moisture requirements for plants as well. I can’t always respond to comments so for those of you that are experienced gardeners, please jump in and help as much as you can. I am a Garden Coach located in the northwest suburbs of Chicago. If you love a garden that’s wild, whimsical, and full of pollinators, these native plants are a must! They thrive with little fuss, return year after year, and bring color, texture, and life to the landscape. Here’s why I’ll never be without them: 🌸 Purple Coneflower (Echinacea purpurea) – Hardy in Zones 3-9, this drought-tolerant perennial loves full sun and attracts butterflies and bees. The seed heads also feed birds in winter! 🌼 Black-eyed Susan (Rudbeckia hirta) – A cheerful, heat-loving bloomer for Zones 3-9, thriving in sun to part shade. It reseeds easily, making it a cottage garden staple. ❤️ Hardy Hibiscus (Hibiscus moscheutos) – This showstopper thrives in Zones 5-9, producing dinner plate-sized blooms in late summer. It loves sun and moist soil, perfect for a cottage garden with a wild edge. 💜 Liatris (Liatris spicata) – A tall, spiky bloomer for Zones 3-9, adding vertical interest. It thrives in full sun and attracts pollinators galore, plus it’s deer-resistant! 💛 Coreopsis (Coreopsis spp.) – A low-maintenance, long-blooming native that thrives in Zones 4-9. Loves full sun, tolerates drought, and keeps blooming from summer to fall. Want a low-maintenance, high-impact cottage garden? These native perennial plants will return year after year and never let you down! 🌾🐝💛 Save this post so you remember what to plant this spring and share it with a friend who loves growing flowers. And tell me what native plants would you add to the list? There are so many more but these are a few of my faves! #CottageGarden #NativePlants #PerennialGarden #PollinatorFriendly #GardeningTips #GardenInspiration #WildflowerGarden

Our beautiful native garden 😍 Matt loves birds and pollinators (bees, butterflies, etc) When we moved into our home 4 years ago, we gave him the land outside his bedroom window to create his native garden. After many months of research and pushing from us to get moving, he began planting. The results are amazing! From spring through late fall there are always flowers for the bees and other pollinators! Berries for the birds and the show that nature puts on is glorious! Why a native garden? 🪴 The plants are used to your local soil meaning little to NO maintenance! This garden was watered ONCE mid summer! 🪴 The plants come back every year, no need to replant the garden every year saving time and money! 🪴 These beauties have spread to fill in the whole garden area! Little weeding and almost no mulch is needed now! 🪴 Native plants support your local ecosystem which is good for us all 🥰 There are online retailers and specialized native plant nurseries where you can get your starter plants. Matt also harvests seeds to grow new species he finds and from his own plants to grow more! Would you love a low maintenance native garden or do you already have one? Currently hiring Matt out to share his expertise and help you create your local native garden! Hope he’s ok with that! 😆 #nativegardens #pollinatorgarden #lowmaintenancegarden

The Pipevine Swallowtail can be found across much of the U.S., including here in Connecticut. Because of the lack of her host plant populations have been on the decline. Their survival depends on pipevine. Not just one single plant, but a group of native plants in the Aristolochia family. Each region has its own. It’s important to stick with what is native to your area. In the Northeast, that includes Aristolochia macrophylla and Aristolochia serpentaria. In the Southeast and Mid-Atlantic, species like Aristolochia tomentosa support populations. And in California, it’s Aristolochia californica. Without the right native species, they can’t reproduce. #pipevineswallowtail #nativeplants #hostplants #pollinatorgarden #butterflygarden

I’d rather have aggressive natives than non-native invasives! Also these aggressive natives can play an important role in restoring areas with alot of invasives. #nativehabitatproject #plantnative #conservation #grasslands #biodiversity #nativeplants #blackeyedsusan

⭐️SAVE this post so you remember to plant these beauties in your garden when you’re ready! What are your favorite native plants that you think everyone should plant? Share them in the comments! I’m in zone 5b and all 3 of these perennial plants are low-maintenance, beautiful, native, and great for attracting pollinators like butterflies, bees, and hummingbirds. 🔥Hot tip: When you hit the nursery, make sure you try to get the straight species. When there is a name added on to the end in ‘x’, like Gaillardia grandiflora ‘Goblin’, it means is a cultivar and doesn’t have as many special relationships with native wildlife species. #nativeplants #plantnative #perennials #gardening #gardens #diygarden #diy #permaculture #flowers #pollinatorgardener #pollinators #landscapedesign #gardendesign #permaculturedesign #colorado #coloradospringsgardens
