Truth of tragedy can’t be forgotten, and to reclaim thanksgiving is to be empowered. For many indigenous today is a day of mourning and homage, as the story fed to us in school is a twisted retelling of the cruelty to the natives. To love those around you is beautiful, but to be mindful of the reason why we have come into such comfort and beautiful land is just as crucial. Education can allow us sympathy and connection to each other, compassion for the story of your peers can bring us all together. The true story of Thanksgiving 🦃 The day after the final massacre, William Bradford, the governor of Massachusetts Bay Colony, writes that from that day forth shall be a day of celebration and thanksgiving for subduing the Pequot and "For the next 100 years, every Thanksgiving Day ordained by a Governor was in honor of the bloody victory, thanking God that the battle had been won." This event marks the first actual Thanksgiving.
