Coral Explained 🪸 Made up of tiny polyps hosting symbiotic algae, corals are actually living animals. When stressed, they can expel the algae living inside their tissues, losing both their color and their main source of energy. But some can resist, recover, and bounce back! They are for sure fascinating creatures that deserve protecting. Reel by CG creative @noe.langronier #CoralGardeners #Coral101 #SaveTheReef

Why any coral should be treated and inspected! Using the example of zoanthids. Although all brittle stars and copepods are useful... many unwanted pests can enter the aquarium if you’re not careful!

Andrew is a generous philanthropist both inside our reef aquarium hobby and outside. Donating his time and resources to our youth, and constantly pushing for more research to ensure we have multi generational Coral reefs for the future. Andrew and his team at @polo_reef has done a great job in educating, promoting coral health, coral restoration, coral preservation. We wanted to appreciate and thank Andrew for all he has done for our hobby and helping making this world a better place for our children, and for the future. Clam Mania will be gifting Andrew the very first shipment of its kind as a show of appreciation for his work and humble efforts. Yes, Andrew and Polo Reef will be the very first! Living Galaxy One incredible fact about polyps is that some species of polyps have the ability to essentially “clone” themselves by undergoing a process called budding. During this process, the polyp grows a new individual from its body, which then detaches and becomes a separate organism. This allows colonies of polyps to rapidly reproduce and spread, and is one reason why some species of polyps are considered invasive pests in certain parts of the world. . . pH!! I’ve always noticed that with elevated pH, my sps have extreme polyp extension. I aim to keep my pH above 8.0, with a target range of 8.2-8.5. I do this with kalkwasser on a stirrer 24/7, soda ash on a dosing pump, and a CO2 scrubber on my skimmer. Not only does it help with polyp extension, but it’s great for coral growth too! 😁 #floridareefkeeper #spscoralcare #coralpolyps #coralcare #coralgrowth

#SundayMood with a glowing Hydroid - a small, colonial organism that consists of individual interconnected polyps. 🤔 Did you know? They have a complex life cycle that includes both a sessile polyp stage and a free-swimming medusa (jellyfish-like) stage. However, some species only exist as polyps and do not form medusae. 🎥 @withgraham
