The Northeast Canyons and Seamounts Marine National Monument was created in 2016 to protect nearly 5,000 square miles of ocean about 130 miles southeast of Cape Cod a biodiversity hotspot of deep-sea canyons, underwater mountains, whales, dolphins, sea turtles, and ancient coral ecosystems. On February 6, 2026, the Trump administration lifted the ban on commercial fishing within the monument. Scientists and conservation groups warn this could cause irreversible damage to some of the ocean’s most fragile habitats. But this isn’t just about policy, it’s about us. Our overconsumption fuels the industries threatening these waters. Cutting out unsustainable seafood, fish oil, and krill-based products matters. So does supporting ecotourism that benefits local communities, and simply raising awareness. Educate yourself, watch Seaspiracy. And vote for leaders who prioritize the well-being of people and the planet over temporary profit. The ocean doesn’t have a voice. We do.🌊

Everyone has a before picture, even the ocean. To address this crisis, we need your help. Comment “PLASTIC” to see how you can clean the ocean. 🌊

Happy World Oceans Day! @aleksmutated's incredible footage of a turtle hatchling making its way home inspires us to care for and protect the ocean in whatever way we can. 🐢 This World Oceans Day, let's be reminded to do our part in saving the ocean. Reducing your carbon emissions, consuming less, skipping single-use plastics, and speaking up about environmental causes are just some of the ways you can practice your responsibility in protecting the ocean. 🌊 What are some ocean-friendly switches you've made in your daily life and what do you plan to do more of? 💙 📽 @aleksmutated 📍 Heron Island, Queensland, Australia 🎶 Sunshine - Sol Rising

A reminder of who else calls the blue planet home💙🌍 From the largest animal to have ever lived – the mighty 🐳 blue whale – to the tiniest creatures, the Ocean is home to incredible life. Some, like leatherback turtles, have been around since the dinosaurs🦕, while others we’re only discovering now. Incredible animals endure the freezing temperatures of the polar regions🐧 and withstand bone-crushing pressure in the deep sea🐌 Join me in appreciating our extraordinary neighbours – the ones we share Earth with💙 Video inspired by @beautifulmatters 📹 1,6. @wandering.westerner, 2. @harperaltschul, 3. @dolphindronedom, 4. @michaelgeorge via @natgeo, 5. minutodobicho #OceanGeneration #Ocean #OceanDecade #OceanThreats #OceanSolutions #OceanEducation #SeaLife #EnvironmentalEducation #MarineLife #Nature #DidYouKnow #AmazingOcean #OceanLover #OceanFacts #SeaTurtle #BlueWhale #Octopus #Rays

What I mean👇 Now of course humans don’t ruin absolutely everything, but in the case of the sperm wake that was killed by someone’s fishing nets, it’s a yes. Approx 100 000 marine animals we killed each year from human impacts (such as plastic, boats, etc) and an extra 2.8 TRILLION are killed with the intention of being eaten. Absolutely insane how high those numbers are, right? But not to worry, that are lots of things we as individuals can do to help our precious ocean ecosystems: 🪸 Reduce single use plastic usage 🪸 Eat less seafood (more direct impact) 🪸 Pick up trash when you see it! Each of these simple changes are so easy to do and can make a huge difference to our ocean life💙 Follow @savingtides if you wanna help save our oceans too💙 🎥 @marynadb I fully understand and it is essential to note that I do not own the copyright to this video©️ (DM or comment for removal) #ocean #oceans #sea #sealife #oceanlife #photography #videography #underwater #underwaterphotography #oceanphotography #reefs #sharks #whales #humpback #freediving #conservation #protectouroceans

Direct contact with marine animals can stress them, harm their protective layers, interfere with their natural behaviors, and it can also be harmful to humans. Be an advocate for marine life by being a responsible diver and keeping them safe. 🪸 ✍️🎥 @queen.films #PADI #MarineLife #Underwater #Ocean

We got SOAKED from breaching Orcas today🤯 One of the absolute best encounters we’ve ever had. We spotted this pod as they met up with another group and fed on Sea Lion’s together. They began celebrating as they do with full bellies and danced around us for several minutes as we sat in neutral watching in amazement. There ended up being 4 different pods consisting of about 5 in each group, so between 15-20 Orcas outside of Moss Landing today. 🐳Book now using link in bio🎉 #whalewatching #whale #orcas #breach #jump #iphone #wet #fly #low #splash #news #media #lunges #wildlife #montereycalifornia #coast #cali #sun #fun

Our oceans are changing 🔥💀 I’ve witnessed a huge shift in the health of our ocean over the last few years and unfortunately not in a positive way. This year especially, it’s impacted me directly in my personal and professional life. What have I witnessed and how has it impacted me? I’ve seen mass bleaching across the Great Barrier Reef. In particular the southern end of the GBR have one of the worst bleaching events in 2024. I’ve seen the Ningaloo reef in Western Australia experience a mass bleaching event. Ive seen coral destruction in Okinawa Japan. I’ve seen reef destruction caused by humans and wildlife harassment my operators all in the name of tourism. I’ve been caught in a cyclone in my home of Byron Bay which was the southern most cyclone in over 50 years. I’ve seen unprecedented rainfall affect my local dive site stopping workshops and local operators to run. I’m now experiencing one of the worst algae blooms around Kangaroo Island which is suffocating the marine life and impacting my mission of connecting humans to nature. Our oceans are under attack from global temperature increases, unsustainable fishing practises, deep sea mining and so on. The list is endless. I know I share the beautiful side of our ocean mostly, but enough is enough. I can’t ignore what is happening and need to start showing the harsh reality that we face. I need to show you what I see on a daily basis. Because honestly, it’s not always pretty turtles. In a time when the ocean needs it most, David Attenborough has a new documentary being released named The Ocean, which will showcase how vital this ecosystem is to sustain human life. This is something that you should watch so you learn just how important the ocean is. What have you seen change in our oceans and how is it impacting you? #theocean #davidattenborough #wildlife #nature #wildlifephotography
