This is what Passover looked like 2,000 years ago – recreated in Lego. A quarter million lambs came through the Sheep Gate on a single afternoon. The families did the slaughtering themselves – each father cut the throat of his own lamb. Priests stood in parallel rows holding gold and silver bowls with rounded bottoms, designed so they couldn't be set down. Blood passed bowl to bowl to bowl, a human conveyor belt ending at the altar. Above it all, the Levite choir sang the Hallel. As the sun set, a forest of pomegranate wood spits appeared on every rooftop in Jerusalem. Thousands of lambs roasting over clay ovens, filling the night air with smoke.
