Learn here ⬇️ Save this before your next cycle 🩷 🚫 1. Coffee doesn’t fix cramps Caffeine actually tightens blood vessels, which makes cramps and bloating worse. Try tea or just hydrate instead 💧 🚫 2. Doubling up on pads won’t make your period lighter It just makes you uncomfortable 😩 What actually helps? Changing often + using the right size for your flow. 🚫 3. Starving yourself ≠ less bloat Skipping meals only crashes your blood sugar and messes with your mood. Your body needs fuel, not restriction 🍓 🚫 4. “Push through the pain” Forcing yourself to keep going only makes it worse. Rest, warmth, or gentle movement works better than pretending it’s not happening 🧸 ✨ Once I started tracking with the Aoife app, I realized my body wasn’t “random” — it was reacting to me. Now I use its science-backed sound therapy to calm cramps and balance mood before they even start. Menstrual cramps are not just pain — they are your body’s natural process. The first 8 hours of periods can feel intense because the uterus contracts to shed its lining. This is a normal part of your menstrual cycle. But understanding this process helps you care for your body better 🌸 Take rest. Stay calm. 🚨 PSA: These symptoms are NOT just “part of being a woman” 🚨 If you’ve been told to just deal with it, it’s time to rethink what’s actually normal when it comes to your period. Here are 5 symptoms that need attention: 1️⃣ Severe Nausea & Vomiting 🤢 If your period is leaving you nauseous or throwing up, that’s not normal. Your cycle shouldn’t make you feel this sick—something deeper is going on, and it’s worth looking into. 2️⃣ Heavy Bleeding (More than 80mL) 🩸 If you’re bleeding more than 80mL over your entire period, that’s considered heavy bleeding. How to check? - Normal pad/tampon = 5mL - Super pad/tampon = 10mL - Menstrual cup = ~15mL If your flow is adding up to more than 80mL, it’s a sign that your body needs support. 💬 Comment ‘BETTER PERIODS’ below and I’ll send my tips to reduce heavy flow! 3️⃣ Severe Headaches or Migraines 🧠 Crippling headaches during your period? These can be linked to excess estrogen. It’s not something you just have to deal with—let’s get those hormones in check! 4️⃣ Crippling Fatigue 😴 A little tired? That’s normal. But if you’re so exhausted you can barely function, that’s NOT. Extreme fatigue can point to low iron or other imbalances that deserve attention. 5️⃣ Cramps That Disrupt Your Life 😩 Mild cramps = fine. Severe, stabbing pain that takes over your life = NOT normal. If pain is stopping you from functioning, lasting beyond your period, or doesn’t respond to meds, it’s a sign of something more serious like endometriosis. 👉Comment ‘BETTER PERIODS’ for my free guide on managing painful, heavy periods and getting to the root cause! You don’t have to live with these symptoms. As an OBGYN, I’m here to correct the record on what a “normal” period feels like. Too many young women are suffering in silence because doctors, media, or even friends have told them their debilitating symptoms are “just cramps” or “just PMS.” These are 3 Period Facts I Wish Every Teen Knew Were NOT Normal: 1️⃣Fact That’s NOT Normal: Missing School or Work Because of Cramps: Cramps that are so severe you have to cancel plans, miss school, or leave work are NOT normal. If over-the-counter pain meds (like ibuprofen) don’t manage your pain, it’s not just “bad luck.” This is a huge red flag for conditions like Endometriosis or fibroids. Don’t be afraid to tell your doctor the pain scale is a 9 or 10. You deserve to be heard. 2️⃣Fact That’s NOT Normal: Bleeding Soaking Through a Pad/Tampon Every Hour: If you are bleeding through a pad or tampon in less than two hours for several hours in a row, or passing clots the size of a golf ball, your bleeding is excessive. This is heavy menstrual bleeding, and it can lead to iron deficiency anemia, extreme fatigue, and brain fog. This is a medical condition that needs evaluation to check for clotting disorders, fibroids, or hormonal imbalances. 3️⃣Fact That’s NOT Normal: Debilitating Mood Swings and Extreme Fatigue Before Your Period: It’s time to stop shrugging off severe emotional symptoms and exhaustion as “just PMS.” If your anxiety, depression, or mood swings are so extreme in the week or two before your period that they disrupt your relationships or life, you may be experiencing PMDD (Premenstrual Dysphoric Disorder). This is a treatable, severe form of PMS, and you need professional help to manage it, not just a lecture to “calm down.” Your period is a vital sign, not a punishment. If you’ve been suffering with any of these, it’s time to speak up. Which one were you told was “just normal”? Let me know.👇 *opinion only, not medical advice #OBGYN #gynecology #womenshealth #youngteens #education #healthyperiods #notnormal #knowthetruth #womenempowerment #theuterusisyoursuperpower

Periods are not punishment. Period pain is not drama. And cramps are not “just in your head.” Menstrual pain happens because the uterus contracts to shed its lining. Those contractions reduce blood flow for a short time — less blood means less oxygen — and that lack of oxygen is what your body feels as cramps. This video explains: • why period pain actually happens • why salt makes bloating and cramps worse • why heat and warm tea help • why painkillers give temporary relief, not a fix This content is not meant to scare or shame anyone. It’s here to explain what your body is asking for — warmth, circulation and care. Education helps women listen to their bodies, not fight them. 🌸 👉 Save this for your next cycle. #PeriodPain #MenstrualHealth #WomensHealth #CycleEducation #HormoneHealth
