Plyometric training is something many of us forgo as we get older. The unfortunate thing, is this type of exercise does many positive things to combat the aging process ✅ Helps you maintain fast twitch muscle fibers which otherwise decrease with age ✅ Increased bone mineral density ✅ Improved tendon resiliency ✅ Improved cognitive function- this one is the most interesting to me. Learning rhythmic movements improves the function of our brain I slacked on this type of training for most of my 30’s but have spent the past year getting back into it! And my advice to you is a) don’t ever stop and if you already have b) start on a gradual progression to get back into it as soon as possible PS did anyone else own the OG Ultimate Dance Party CDs back in the day?! How to apply PROGRESSIVE OVERLOAD! 💪🏽 It’s no longer a secret within the fitness industry that progressive overload is one of the most important protocols that you must follow to bigger/better/stronger/faster/ ect. SO WHY ARE THERE STILL PEOPLE NOT APPLYING THIS? 1) Have a plan. -You must be following a programme. Normally these consist of 3-6 week blocks that are progressively overloaded from week to week. Your programme must be specific to you and your goals! 2) Record everything! -Either on paper or on your phone. Once you have your programme set up and ready to go you need to start recording what weight/sets/reps you have performed each day. This will come in handy next week when you’ve forgotten what weight you did for bent over booty blaster 5000 (not a real exercise). 😂 3) DO MORE! -If you have set your programme out well then you will have this already set each week. If you haven’t then you need to increase intensity/volume/TUT ect, from last week. This can look like and extra rep, extra set, longer moving the weight, increased weight and many many more. 4) Optional but, ADVISED! Get a PT -Hiring a PT is easiest way to do all this stress free 🤷🏽♂️ although probably not the most cost effect they will definitely get you from A to B a lot quicker than on your own (if they are a half decent one).
