1. Everyone says use a qtip with alcohol to clean dust off polymer clay. But wiping down EVERYTHING and wearing the right clothes before you start will make that 1000% easier 2. YOUR EYE PIN WILL FALL OUT. WHY didn’t anyone tell me 😭 you need to find a method to secure it that works for you and TEST IT! 3. Why is Sculpey 3 polymer clay so bad?? Everyone was so ominous about it 😅 Sculpey 3 can be very soft to work with (finger prints and doesn’t hold its shape) and is brittle and fragile after it’s baked. Sculpey premo (the most recommended) is more firm and rubbery/flexible after baked. 4. Any contact point (arms, legs, ears) you add needs to be secure beyond blending the seams!! I thought blending the seams and using UV resin would make the polymer clay drop proof. I learned immediately that you need MORE otherwise it breaks clean off 😭 I score + if needed use liquid clay and wires! 5. Do NOT cheap out on your keychain findings. They WILL break and risk breaking or losing your art. Jumprings especially should be stainless steel. 6. Uv resin as a glaze is beautiful but is NOT foolproof. It’s highly toxic to people and animals, you need to buy separate PPE (respirator, disposable gloves) and it’s not simple to work with. You can get uneven surfaces, air bubbles or chemical reactions. There is a learning curve that’s never shown in “process” videos!

Here are 8 things I wish somebody had told me before starting my clay journey: 1. Dust, lint or even fingerprints can be removed with sanitary alcohol on a cotton swab. It works like magic ✨ - before baking 2. If something doesn’t turn out the way you want, just keep creating. At some point you’re gonna do it and it’s gonna be amazing 🌱 3. Best polymer clay brand is Fimo - in my opinion 🙏🏻 4. Conditioning the clay properly is everything!!! Knead it until it’s soft and smooth - makes a huge difference and it’s easy to work with 🍄 5. Your hands will get dirty, use baby wipes or alcohol wipes - lifesaver 😭 6. You’re gonna use a lot of hand cream after working with polymer clay- your skin is going to be dry 🥹 7. Always bake it according to the package instructions- never more never less 🍪 8.
