You’ll thank me later. Pottery is all about finding support points from everywhere. Elbows hooked to your body and thighs. Hand hooked to your elbows. Fingers hooking on your hands. Once you figure this out centering gets 100% easier. Let me know if this helped you! #pottery #wheelthrowing #ceramics #potterytips #potterytutorial

Bruh this is definitely not what I originally set out to make! I was trying to build a vase with a hole through the center, but I fell asleep and let the clay dry out way too much. 😭 Instead of scrapping it, I figured, why not use it to practice my carving? Let me know what you guys think of the details! #pottery #potterylove #potteryart #ceramics #potterystudio

Very quickly learning that clay has a mind of its own And maybe this week I’ll center it on the first try 👏🏻 #pottery #potterywheelthrowing

Here’s a little bowl-throwing secret: focus on the inside curve first, not the outside! 🌀 Why? Because when you get that internal shape right, everything else falls into place. Here’s what you get: ✔️ Even wall thickness ✔️ A beautiful, functional curve for eating or serving ✔️ Easier trimming later on ✔️ A more balanced, symmetrical bowl ✔️ The outside shape is easier to refine! So next time you’re at the wheel, don’t rush the outside—start from within! 💫 #PotteryTips #ThrowingBowls #WheelThrowing #StudioLife #ClayLove #PotteryProcess

One of the most common issues for folks learning to throw pottery is how much pressure you should be using when pulling up the walls. Too little pressure, the clay won’t be moving. If you find yourself doing pull after pull and your pot isn’t getting any taller you’re not using enough pressure. Too much pressure and the clay will get thin, twist or tear, like so👆🏻 We need more pressure around the bottom as there is more clay here and it has further to move. Conversely, we need less pressure towards the top as the clay has thinned out. It doesn’t matter if you fail. Failure always teaches us something. Keep practicing! Throwing a Large Swirly Vase. This is actually the tallest piece I've ever thrown in one piece. Before I chopped the top off (there was an air bubble making it uneven) it would have been about 35cm tall, and given that my kiln is 40cm tall it's coming close to the upper limit of what I can fire at the moment. At least I can be pretty confident that throwing standing isn't limiting how much I can use! This is done in buff stoneware. I have a few bags left from when I used to use it before I found the KGM, so I thought I'd steal @anna_macfarlane_ceramics' idea of using a halfway clay between black and white clays and use some of it up. I made a few large planters and this vase, then cleaned everything down properly. s#pottery #clay #instapottery #thrownonaskutt @cromartie_kilnsandwheels #ceramic #ceramics #contemporaryceramics #handmade #handmadeuk #handmadepottery #createmakeshare #glaze #cone6 #wheelthrown #wheelthrowing #potteryvideo #satisfyingvideo #oddlysatisfying #satisfying #oldforgecreations
