3B Reaction Drill 🔥 If you play the hot corner, your first step and reaction time are everything. For this drill, stand a few feet in front of a wall while a partner stands behind you with a lacrosse ball. Get into your prep step, and as soon as they throw the ball off the wall, your job is to react and keep it from getting past you. I like using a lacrosse ball because: -It comes off the wall fast -It’s similar weight to a baseball -It’s slightly smaller, which forces even better reactions This is a great way to train the quick reactions and explosive first step you need when you’re playing 3rd base. Infielders: Be on time, every-time! If you feel like you are not ready to move when the ball is hit, there is a high chance you are simply not prepared at contact. If you want to drastically change your defensive game, make it a priority to be on time with your prep step. Both feet should be hitting the ground by the time the ball reaches the hitting zone. Too many infielders make the game harder on themselves because of a lack of focus and sometimes a lack of understanding of how important it is to stay connected with the ball as it is being thrown.
