I get asked all the time “How do I even start Step 1 prep?” or “How do I manage university with Step prep?” ✨📚 Here’s what I always say: 📅 Start by setting a deadline. It keeps you accountable. 📖 Don’t separate university from USMLE prep. Study your uni material but from a Step perspective you don’t have to choose one over the other. 🗂️ Stick to 2-3 resources. Don’t overwhelm yourself. I used Boards & Beyond + made notes directly in First Aid. 📌 Complete one system, then solve related Qs. Application > memorization. 🕰️ Start slow, stay consistent. Progress builds with time. Tip📍please, take breaks for things that refresh you. Burnout is real, and rest is part of the process too. It won’t be perfect, but it’ll come together. ✨SAVE & SHARE✨Getting ready for Step 1? This one’s for you! 📚 1. I love love loved @blueprintmedschool FREE organizer. I am a person who needs a schedule, and this helped me include all of my resources in one space, and sorted them out for me. You can include literally all that you want to use, pixorize, Anki, boards and beyond, USMLE, AMBOSS, q bank, and then you put all the settings. You can throw in scheduled days off, when you want to study more and study less, and adjust as needed 🙏 This is a game changer! 2. As you’re wrapping up MS2, tread lightly into the UWORLD Q bank. Don’t overwhelm yourself, but even 20 questions a day in the block you’re in, will really lighten your study load when it comes to dedicated. Doing block specific questions will be helpful as you’re studying for your classes as well! Don’t go too crazy on resources though! 😮‍💨Find what you like, and start thinking about how you want to learn. 3. 5 resources; 1 Qbank, 1 content, 1 retention, 1 broad overview, and 1 focused. For me, I did the Uworld q bank, boards and beyond content, light Anki for retention, USMLE step 1 book for overview, and sketchy for a focused micro. The only addition would be pixorize for the vitamins! 🎉 Each one can be switched out for which ones you prefer! Bonus tip: Don’t compare yourself to others. STEP 2 CK NOTES from UWORLD: I decided to make my own notes for Step 2CK (whether or not that was a good decision will become evident when I take the exam). Here's what it looks like, and here's how I did it [repost]: 🌟 I went through UW in timed, random mode, 40Qs at a time (if I could start over again, I would likely do system-based for my 1st pass) 🌟 I used Word (and LibreOffice, a free Word alternative) to type because that's way faster than handwriting 🌟 My chosen font: AVENIR 🌟 I set up sections & subsections based on the most common things that came up - I made a YT video & blog post about this: search for "template" and "ck" to find a free downloadable template. My sections included the systems (peds, obgyn) and subsections (like L&D, postpartum, etc.) 🌟 I used bullet points - I tried to summarize each q into one bullet point (with sub-bullets when needed). I bolded the disease and certain key words; for ex., if a disease had a ton of causes, but the qstem focused on 1, I bolded that 🌟 I used the highlight feature, but only VERY rarely: since it emphasized *very* HY things, I used it sparingly 🌟 I added why the wrong answers were wrong with the phrase: "ddx from ____ bc that would have fever, chills" 🌟 I included key tables and images, and extracted key information into cute little text boxes 🌟 I sometimes wrote out a specific patient presentation (when it surprised me or I got it wrong) Do you have any tips I missed?
