Comment “STEP3” and I’ll send you my exact Step 3 study schedule breakdown. I passed USMLE Step 3 in under three weeks while working full-time as a resident — without a dedicated study block or months of preparation. Most residents don’t struggle with Step 3 because of knowledge gaps. They struggle because they approach it the same way they studied for Step 1 or Step 2. Once I understood what Step 3 actually tests — and adjusted my strategy accordingly — studying became manageable even during residency. If you’re preparing for Step 3 while balancing clinical responsibilities, this approach can save you time, stress, and unnecessary burnout. Save this for when Step 3 moves up your priority list.

A lot of the advice I saw online were from those who went straight through medical school into residency/Step 3 - study tips for people like me didn’t seem to be represented well. 2 months before Step 3, I felt like I had forgotten everything I knew from Step 2 which, honestly, was probably not far from the truth 😅 so I knew I needed to study more than the average person for Step 3! Here’s how I studied for Step 3 (and how I SHOULD’VE studied) as someone with minimal IM involvement who took a 3.5 years since Step 2! Hoping this can give some direction to any fellow nontraditional test-takers out there 🙂 #usmle #residency #medstudent

Step 3 is the final step! 🎉 First of all, congratulations on finishing with the USMLE. Step 3 is not a mandatory exam before residency, I took it because I had the time, and you can also take it during residency. I will explain the details of Step 3 in another post. Now, let’s talk about the preparation. I think dedicated two months are enough, of course, if the step timelines are close to each other, it will be easier to remember the information. I started with UWorld and solved it regularly. One round is enough, as there are fewer UWorld questions compared to other steps. Then, while solving the second round, I reviewed my incorrect answers, took notes, and read them. UWorld is an incredible resource as always. Whenever I found free time, I listened to Divine, but I can’t say I found it very useful for Step 3, honestly, it was better for Step 2. One month before the exam, I started CCScases.com, the cases here are really perfect, I definitely recommend it. UWorld also has CCS questions, but I didn’t find them as useful. Two weeks before the exam, I joined a first aid review group and reviewed first aid from the beginning, which was incredibly beneficial, I recommend doing this in the last month. In the last two weeks, I solved the free 137 questions. This time, I didn’t solve NBME, but those who did say it’s useful. this was my process, it took 3-4 months for me because I was doing USCE and in the interview process. I hope it has been helpful. I would like to share my exam day experience in another post. 🧚♀️🤍 Remember to share with your friends who need this!💖 #usmle #usmlestep3 #usresidency #amerikadadoktorluk #medicine #studymed #step3 #ccs #uworld #nbme #study

Found out a few days ago that I passed my USMLE Step 3 exam!! ✨✨ This week has just been the gift that keeps on giving. So excited to be done with all the STEP exams for lyfe!! I found this exam to be easier because you know exactly what to expect from Prometric and the exam format so my prep time was only 2 months. I used UWORLD for Step 3 exclusively, and used CCS cases online to practice about 40 cases. I read like one page of First Aid before giving up lol I decided to take the exam now before residency because my current rotation in the UK (psychiatry) gave me a lot of time at work and there was a possibility of getting an H1B visa as well if I passed. It feels so good to be done before residency so would highly recommend this for anyone in the same boat. Now on to USMLE STEP 4 —> chillin’ and celebratin’ #usmlestep #usmlestep3 #usmleprep #usmlepreparation #usmlestep1 #usmlestep2ck #usmlemotivation #studyhacks #uworld #questionbank #onlinelearningplatform #step3 #matchresidency #residencylife #donewithexams #examseason #doctorblogger #difficultexam #examstress

I took USMLE Step 3 during my intern year of general surgery residency. Since I had already matched and my score was no longer important, my goal was to study just enough to pass with minimal time. In all honesty, I only got through about half of the UWorld question bank (I did not end up being able to stick to doing 40 questions daily with the surgery work hours). I did complete the CCS cases in UWorld but never purchased the recommended interactive CCS cases. I also never took a practice exam—something I definitely wouldn’t recommend. I passed on my first try, but looking back, I wouldn't suggest doing the bare minimum—especially if you're aiming for a competitive score. Now, as a USMLE tutor, here’s what I recommend for Step 3 prep: ✅ Complete the UWorld question bank at least once (redo it if aiming for a high score) ✅ Practice questions daily – Aim for 40 UWorld Qs/day (or more), starting with tutor mode, untimed, mixed topics. As test day approaches, switch to timed, no tutor mode. ✅ Interactive CCS cases – Complete at least half, prioritizing high-yield ones. ✅ CCS cases – Do 2-3 cases per day (more if possible). ✅ Practice exams – Take at least 1-2 (NBMEs, UWSA). ✅ Free 137 & NBME CCS cases – Complete these 1-2 weeks before the test. ✅ If aiming for a high score – Make & review Anki cards for your UWorld incorrects. ✅ Give yourself at least 2 months to study if balancing it with residency. Step 3 may be the last USMLE exam, but it still deserves solid prep. Start studying early, stay consistent, and don't make the same mistakes I did! Follow for more study strategies and med school/residency tips! 📚

⭐️Because I had such a strong base from my previous Step exams, I only spent about 1.5 months total studying for Step 3. ✨For the first month I did 20 UWorld questions per day while on an outpatient rotation. For the 2 weeks leading up to Date 1, I did about 80 Uworld questions per day, and completed the 2 Uworld practice tests. ✨I completed the Biostatistic review in UWorld, and made sure to complete all of the Biostatistics questions before test day! ✨I had 4 days between day 1 and day 2, and over that long weekend I crammed as many CCS cases as I could. I ended up doing about 50-60 CCS Cases during this time, which got me comfortable with the format and software. ✨If you’ve watched my prior videos, you might be surprised about how little I studied for the Step 3 exam. Since I’m already matched into a Dermatology residency, and much busier as an intern than I was as a medical student, my goal was simply to PASS step 3, and my studying reflected that. ✨If you haven’t yet matched into your desired specialty and are hoping to maximize your Step 3 score as much as possible, I would recommend trying to complete all of UWorld, plus the NBME practice exams, and completing all of the CCS cases to maximize your chances of scoring well! . . . #step3 #usmle #resident #doctor #medschool #medstudent #premed

If you’re aiming to PASS USMLE Step 1 in 2026 - this is the FULL BLUEPRINT I used as an IMG ✅ As promised, here’s the full Step 1 blueprint that went viral 👇 The order matters: 🧠 Pathoma (especially Chapters 1–3) 🦠 Sketchy Micro / Pharm ❓ Start UWorld early 📄 Mehlman PDFs to patch weak areas 🧪 Dirty Medicine for biochem 📊 NBMEs at the end You’ll notice I’ve intentionally not mentioned First Aid. That’s on purpose. In a pass/fail exam, First Aid is too dense and inefficient as a primary review resource. It worked in the past — that doesn’t mean it’s still the best answer now. For NBMEs: do them online, timed, exam conditions. If you’re consistently scoring ~70%+ on multiple forms, you’re in a strong position. Finish with the Free 120 a few days before the exam. Fewer resources. Used properly. Repeated consistently. That’s how you pass Step 1 efficiently and move on to Step 2 sooner 🚀 Hit me with any questions in the comments 👇
