This is all another opportunity for Republicans to privatize something that has become a necessity so their billionaire backers can make money off the backs of everyday Americans. Project 2025 explicitly states: “Until it is privatized, TSA should be treated as a national security provider, and its workforce should be deunionized immediately.” Stripping union rights first breaks the biggest organized obstacle to closing the agency, and cancels the 2024 collective bargaining agreement, removing legal and financial penalties for the government if it later transfers all screening to private contractors. The “Big Beautiful Bill” literally includes the Abolish TSA Act (sponsored by Senators Mike Lee and Tommy Tuberville), which would dissolve TSA within 90 days of enactment and create a new Office of Aviation Security Oversight inside the FAA to supervise private contractors. Within three years, responsibility (and cost) for securing airline flights would return to the airlines and whichever private screening companies they hire; non‑aviation security functions would move to the Department of Transportation.

The United States Postal Service isn't just a convenience—it's a constitutional promise.
