Where does the POWER come from in your POWER clean? Your LEGS, NOT your arms. If your elbows are bending during the first or second pull of the clean, you are taking the power out of your legs and moving it into your arms, which are not near as strong. To have a strong clean you want to keep the weight in your legs as long as possible To do this, use the cue “jump with straight elbows.” This will keep the drive in your legs until you have hit full extension from your jump, then and only then do you forcefully shoot the elbows forward to catch the bar in the front rack position. See the power go way up in your power clean using this cue!

Fix your Clean! Some of you asked for it, so here it is. My tips to help you improve your Clean for the future. What tips do you want to see next? #clean #gewichtheben

I asked @vanechiqui why she cleans with a mixed grip - something you’ll rarely ever see in the clean! Here’s her response: . Hey!! Of course!! Would love for you to share it! . “I was at WZA in Miami years ago and I saw an athlete who was doing elite do it like that. She had to be no more than 5 feet and hang cleaning 135lbs. I assumed she was doing it for better grip. Tried it one day and it worked. Slowly I’ve been able to do squat cleans like this and can rep out more hang cleans and cleans like this! I get a better pull and if I’m being completely honest, I have long acrylic nails(which I love) so it’s the only way I can lift since I don’t hook grip on any of my lifts” . So - would you try this?

💥best variation to transform cleans?💥 A very different take on what a lot of people think is a very straightforward thing. Yes we use hookgrip to hold the bar in snatches and cleans. But removing it can also become a tool to help improving it if you struggle to pull under with the arms or grip strength is very weak. Remember this is a tool to be used as a variation not as a replacement, hook grip will always reign supreme with heavy lifts. Give it a try. #weightlifting #olympicweightlifting #weightlifter #coach #weightliftingcoach #onlinecoach #strength #power #strengthandconditioning #coachingtips #weightliftingtips #clean #cleantips #cleanpullunder #nohookgrip #fitness #crossfit

There are quite a few more variations than this, but these cover essentially everything from the floor. A few are very similar to each other but will have differences in effect significant enough that the distinction matters, so play close attention when one is prescribed—it’s for a reason. Here ⬇️ 👉 Contact is good in the clean, but not so much that you lose vertical speed on the barbell. 🏋️♂️ This drill is a MUST if you hit the bar to hard with your hips. 📈 5 X 3 is a good start at around 70% of 1RM. ✅ You can even add it into clean complexes to reinforce proper leg drive before cleans. 🔹If you enjoyed this post and enjoy functional training as much as I do, I think you’ll like my page. How I coach the HANG CLEAN PULL 🚀 This is a great option for enhancing leg power in athletes. This variation requires a little bit of coaching to get right, but is generally a pretty straightforward introduction to weightlifting derivatives. In particular, pulls from above the knee are low risk and tend to be less fatiguing—allowing for higher training density. 🔑 Use these coaching cues to ensure you’re sequencing the kinetic chain appropriately and staying safe in the weights room.
