Cable RDLs can be an elite glute and hamstring builder… But only if you stop fighting physics! If you’re standing 6 feet away from the pulley, you’re not doing an RDL You’re just counterbalancing the weight. An RDL is a vertical hinge. Gravity pulls a barbell straight down, which creates maximum “moment arm” (leverage) at your hips. When the cable is far in front of you, the force is pulling you horizontally. This does two things you don’t want: 1️⃣ Your spinal erectors have to work overtime just to keep you from being pulled forward toward the stack. 2️⃣ At the bottom of the hinge (where we want the most tension on the hamstrings), the cable is pulling your shins forward instead of loading your hips back. To make a cable RDL actually work, you need the line of pull to be as vertical as possible. Stand almost directly over the pulley. The cable should run close to or between your legs. Focus on pushing your hips back, not just leaning forward. If glutes are hard to feel during an RDL, or lower back takes over, a cable RDL can be a great variation to try.For many people, it feels easier to control and makes it easier to focus on the glutes. Set the pulley to the lowest position, grab the handle, and step back enough to get a full range of motion, usually one to two steps. Keep shoulders down, core engaged, and hinge through the hips throughout the movement. This is a beginner-friendly variation worth trying. #gluteworkout #legday #rdl #glutes #gym

🍑 STEP-BY-STEP: How To Do Cable RDLs ⬇️ 1. Start by setting up a cable machine with a low pulley attachment. Attach a handle or rope to the pulley. 2. Stand facing the cable machine with your feet shoulder-width apart. Keep a slight bend in your knees. 3. Grab the handle or rope with an overhand grip, palms facing down. Step the weight back a few steps (this may take some practice to know what distance you need). 4. Engage your core and maintain a neutral spine throughout the movement. 5. Begin the movement by hinging at the hips, and pushing your glutes back. Keep your knees slightly bent and your weight on your heels. 6. As you lower the cable handle, focus on feeling a deep stretch in your glutes and hamstrings. Keep your back straight and avoid rounding your shoulders. 7. Once you reach the bottom position, where you feel a good stretch in your glutes, pause for a moment. 8. Drive through your heels and engage your glutes and hamstrings to return to the starting position. Keep your back straight and avoid using your lower back to lift the weight. This is a technique I discovered on my own through trial and error. It's a personal preference on how I like to cable RDL's to better match the original RDL form. Personally, for building muscle, I would recommend using DB or BB for RDLs. But I like including cable RDLs in supersets to further sculpt and work my legs. RDLs are suppose to be done with the weight being pulled downwards (like with DBs or BB) so that's why Cable RDL get some hate for the weight being pulled on them in-front of you. This is why I prefer stepping as close as I can to the cable to mimic the original form but obviously, nothing is better than the original. This is just a personal preference I use when I perform Cable RDLs. As always, I'm not an expert, I just post personal workout tips I've used. recommend doing your own research and finding out what works best for you! . . . . . . . . . . #glute #glutgains #glutesandhamstrings #fitnessforlife #fitgirlsguide #fitnessgirl Cc @ fitnessninasotom

Cable RDLs just feel better on my back because the tension stays consistent the whole time and the movement feels smoother. The cable kind of guides you into a better hinge so you’re not putting as much stress on your lower back. It helps me actually feel my glutes and hamstrings working instead of my back taking over. Comment or DM “TRANSFORM” if you’re ready to commit to a real body transformation.
