EGG RETRIEVAL RESULTS 😭 Today was my egg retrieval day at @damienfertilitypartners with @dr.barryevan and I am beyond emotional. I did my first round of IVF with a different clinic a couple years ago and got 6 eggs and besides that I had a very stressful and sad experience. Needless to say I was nervous going into this second round but Dr. Barry and the whole staff at Damien couldn’t have made this experience better. I got 20 eggs and I am absolutely beside myself. I couldn’t stop crying. I still can’t stop crying now. I know so many women who have gone through so many rounds and treatments, and if I’m being 100% honest I feel a bit of guilt for getting 20 and sharing this. But I also know I’ve been through it for 3 years too prepping for this second round and I promised I would share everything. I just have so much empathy and love for every woman and couple dealing with this. Just know if you’re watching this and going through it I hope you use this video as hope. That you can advocate for yourself, find the right doctor and come out the other side. We still have a long road ahead of us with seeing how many eggs mature and genetic testing. Almost a month since my egg retrieval and I’m feeling good 🙂 Here’s a quick breakdown of retrieval day + recovery and yes, how many eggs I now have frozen. Here’s a clip from our interview with @60minutes about the optimal age for egg freezing and the essential info on our biological block that everyone should be aware of. To be clear, while your 20s may be the most optimal timeframe, that isn’t to say it is not successful if you freeze in your 30s. The key is to have a clear, honest conversation about success rates and the ideal # of eggs to freeze in order to try and optimize the odds of success. Human reproduction is inefficient and it’s important to realize that even with all the technology and advancements we still have to within the confines of an inefficient system. Proper counseling and going to a fertility clinic that has a good quality IVF lab and experience and real data to share is key. Most importantly, the message here is not that we are powerless because there is no miracle diet or supplement that can turn back our biological clock- it’s to get rid of the culture of self-blame and shame about age related infertility.
