💡🤯💡Need another /r/ elicitation tip? Here’s a couple of ideas that worked well for me this week with 2 older kids... . One child is in upper elementary with a distorted /r/ (you know, the kid whose been in therapy for years and they *almost* have it, but its just not crisp)... and another child in middle elementary who was not stimulable at all until today. . Here’s what worked... . ☝🏼I told them to forget about trying to make an /r/ sound and we just played around with lingual movement using a mirror. Once I thought the tongue looked like it had good tension, elevation and posterior position, I told them to FREEZE that tongue and turn their voice on. . ✌🏼For my kids who struggle with correct placement, I use this “bowl” analogy rather than directly teaching a retroflexed or bunched /r/. For some reason it helps get the tension and placement necessary to make a better crisper /r/. . What are some of your best tips for /r/ elicitation? . #grahamspeechtherapy #articulation #speechsounddisorders

First I’ll need my phoneme/grapheme chart. This is how I keep track of all past-learned concepts. I always start with a phonemic awareness warm-up based on student need. Then Red Words are reviewed. Next is the Three-Part Drill! Then I introduce the new concept. Students will spell words and write sentences containing the target concept. Afterwards, we learn a new Red Word and practice syllabication. Then it’s time for our decodable text! If we have time, students go through their word lists, highlight the target concept, and read the words in isolation. Students are always sent home with an extra decodable, word list, and a fluency activity if needed. #structuredliteracy #certifiedtutor #ortongillinghamcertification #dyslexiainterventionist #readwithmrsa

Simple formula. Play on repeat. This is a repost of my first video to go viral and get 1.3 million views and led me to start making classroom management content. And crazily enough, the authors of Setting Limits saw this post and I started working with them almost two years ago and now we help schools transfer their teaching by improving their classroom management and learning communities. How do your kids learn? Do you know??? I thought they were all suppose to just sit in rows and do what they were told. Read this book. Do this worksheet. Hold still. Repeat after me. While this works for some kids, it does not work for them all! Rad is a physical learner. He absorbs so much information when his body is moving! Ace is a visual learner. If he sees it or draws a picture of it, he will remember it! Knox is a logical learner. He always wants to know why! And when he learns the why, he doesn’t forget it! It’s so cool to watch my boys learn in such different ways! In the ways that work for them! In the ways that will benefit them the very most and set them up for success 💛

Slow learners are not weak learners. They are system-injured learners. Classrooms often reward speed, not depth. They measure how fast a child can memorise—not how deeply they can think, feel, imagine, or endure. What we call slowness is often: • Cognitive overload • Nervous system fatigue • Untapped intelligence waiting for the right context And when school ends, many of these “slow” learners become entrepreneurs, innovators, leaders—because life finally allows them to run their own marathon, not someone else’s race. Every child deserves dignity. Every child deserves recognition—not just for marks, but for how they think, connect, create, and contribute. If we rank academics, we must also rank: • Creativity • Emotional intelligence • Spatial & visual thinking • Relational & leadership skills • Kinesthetic & vocational strengths Only then do we educate—rather than traumatize. Rouble Tuli & Shikha Dutt Tuli — educators, curriculum thinkers, and learning-system reformers working at the intersection of education, parenting, and child psychology. We help schools and families move from comparison-driven schooling to child-centric, dignity-preserving learning ecosystems. We collaborate with schools, institutions, and communities on: • Curriculum Design • Teacher Training • Career Counselling • One-to-One Consultations • Awareness on Learning Disabilities & Academic Disorders • Parenting & Communication Workshops • Book Fairs, Literature Festivals & Educational Campaigns Let’s reimagine what learning can look like—for every child.
