Using a rowing ergometer (row erg) properly ensures an effective workout while minimizing the risk of injury. Because we use this machine regularly, it is essential to learn how to use it correctly: 1. Start by adjusting the damper setting to a moderate level (typically between 3 and 5) and securing your feet in the straps so they are snug but not overly tight. 2. Sit up tall with your shoulders relaxed and grip the handle lightly, keeping your wrists straight. 3. Begin the stroke with the catch position: knees bent, shins vertical, arms extended, and torso slightly forward. 4. Initiate the movement by driving with your legs, engaging your core as your hips open, and then pulling the handle toward your lower chest. 5. Reverse the motion for the recovery phase: extend your arms first, hinge your hips forward, and let your knees bend as you slide forward for the next stroke. 6. Maintain a smooth, controlled rhythm, focusing on power during the drive and a steady return during recovery. Always keep your movements coordinated and avoid hunching your back or using only your arms to pull. Be sure to let the bar pass your knees before bending them - this is an important part of the recovery. Rowing is a great way to improve your conditioning and get a great cardio workout with low impact, and it requires proper technique for efficiency and speed. We are here to help! Just ask a coach to assess your technique 🙌🏼 #crossfit #crossfithonolulu #rowing #rowerg #rowtechnique #muscleandmotion #strengthandconditioning #concept2rower

Not enough people realize how MASSIVE of a mistake this is… On the @concept2inc (and pretty much every rowing machine, water rower etc)- you’ve gotta understand that the chain CONNECTS during the stroke sequence at a SLIGHT DIAGONAL angle! It is not “straight in and out of the machine”. Seriously… go film yourself rowing and you will see EVERY TIME the chain snaps up slightly. Every inch of the drive you take before the “snap up” is WASTED because you have little to no connection when the chain isn’t slightly diagonally pulled. While this example in the video might be exaggerated, carrying your hands low is taking most of the efficiency out of your rowing stroke. ❌ The answer is NOT to “scoop” the handle to lift the hands! This is unsustainable at high stroke rates. ✅ Instead, try this drill. Pause at the knees with the handle low to your thighs, then slowly “trickle” aka lift your hands up up up… it’s a SUBTLE movement. Then, drive back with your hands lifted high and notice INSTANTLY how much stronger and connected your stroke feels. Massive difference. That handle path takes some practice to nail down, but once you get it, you’ll feel connected from start to finish every stroke! 💪 Happy rowing! 🚣♂️ Coach Austin 🤘 . . . #row #rower #rowing #rowingmachine #erg #rowingworkout #rowingworld #hyrox #crossfit #rowingispassion #rowingrelated

This is what (almost) perfect sculling looks like… And the most important takeaways for you to start emulating this in your own rowing

Rowing is HARD! Spending all that time focusing on things like stroke rate and % effort on the rowing machine can be mentally and physically exhausting. So here’s one to keep it simple. You gotta stay on that stroke rate the whole time, but you’ll find your % of effort/stroke should change as the time decreases. The workout: For Meters - 10 min on 2 min rest 8 min on 2 min rest 6 min on 2 min rest 4 min on 2 min rest 2 min on Stroke Rate 22 the entire time. Rest period can be complete stop if you like but I prefer active rest. 75% effort for each time window. If you wanna play, drop your total meters into the comments. #rowingworkout #rowingwod #rowingworkouts #rowingmachineworkout #rowingmachine

Rowing difficulty is dictated by how hard you drive through your legs, not by the damper setting being higher. Keep it between 3-5 for efficiency and endurance!

Size & Shred Training program 👉🏻 deltabolic.com (link in bio) Cable Rows — Leaning Forward vs. Leaning Back Leaning your torso changes which muscles take on more of the work: Leaning forward slightly increases the stretch on your lats, helping you drive more lat engagement during the row. Leaning back shifts more emphasis toward your mid–upper back, especially the traps and rhomboids. Staying upright gives you a balanced pull that hits the lats, some mid-back and traps. No matter the angle, all back muscles are firing to some degree, but adjusting your torso position lets you bias certain areas more effectively.

Rowing is not deadlifting At the front of the stroke you want to try to get your shins vertical and your knees compressed as much as possible. Once the handle gets to at about your shin that’s when the heels should be planted and driving hard through the pad.
