The first version isn’t wrong — it’s just elite pace / ego burpees. Jumping both feet in and out spikes your heart rate fast and works only if the volume is low or you’re very conditioned. Stepping one foot at a time keeps your breathing under control and lets you stay moving for longer. Same as running: You wouldn’t run a 5 km at your 1 km pace.
