See below for our top 6 tips of how to get into sailing. Sailing offers wonderful freedom and such a unique way to travel the world however it can also be scary, challenging and dangerous. The great thing about the sport is that you are always learning, every day out at sea is different but it can feel hard to know where to start if you’re learning so read on for more info: 1️⃣ Go dinghy sailing. Most of the best sailors you’ll meet started dinghy sailing. Not only is it lots of fun but it also offers the unique ability to actually ‘feel the wind in your hands’. One of the hardest things to understand in sailing is learning where the wind is on the boat and how that affects it, and in a dinghy you really get a feel for it. And if you get it wrong, capsizing’s quite fun anyway! 2️⃣ Join a sailing club. Even if you don’t live super close to the water, it’s worth finding out where your nearest one is. There could be a lake not that far away that does sailing lessons/racing etc. By doing this you’re mentally investing in your goal and getting one step closer. Also you’ll be surrounding yourself with other sailors which leads us to point number 3… 3️⃣ Variety is key. Sail with lots of different people as it’s far better and safer to have a range of experiences which you can learn from. Often you’ll learn more from the experiences you don’t enjoy (I.e what not to do!). 4️⃣ Get offshore. There a loads of ways you can go offshore sailing without owning a boat first. Search online for the volunteering crew apps and spend a summer hopping on and off different boats. You will learn so much about sailing and boat life by doing this. 5️⃣ Beginner Courses - things like your Competent Crew or Day Skipper courses are really good ways to get a better feel of life on the water. 6️⃣ Learn on land. There is so much to learn about sailing that isn’t actually sailing. Knots, theory, navigation, engineering. All of this can be learnt from sitting on your sofa and will make you a much better sailor on the whole. . . . . #projectworldsail #sailing #sail #sailinglife #sailinglovers #sailingpassion #sailorcouple #sailinginstagram #classicyacht #lifeatsea #liveaboards

Did you know that sailing is one of the cheapest hobbies or means of travel out there. To get started, you don't even need a boat (heck, even I don't own a boat and I sail like half of the year). See, there's a lot of people out there with boats who don't want to sail alone. This is where you can come in, joining them for free in exchange for some company or help sailing the boat. It's called crewing and it's surprisingly popular. If you want to learn more, comment SAIL #sailing #travel

Here are 5 things you need to know before you step on a sailboat for the first time 1️⃣ **You’ll never want a “normal” vacation again.** Beaches are nice, but waking up in a hidden bay? Addictive. 2️⃣ **Marina showers become luxury spas.** Don’t ask. Just enjoy the warm water while it lasts. 🚿😅 3️⃣ **You will check the wind forecast more often than Instagram.** True story. Windy becomes your best friend. 4️⃣ **You’ll bond faster with your crew than with coworkers you’ve known for years.** Salt water, shared snacks, and sunset anchorings do that. 5️⃣ **Saying goodbye to the boat feels like leaving a piece of your soul behind.** Yes, we got emotional too. ⛵️ Ready to find your yacht and start your own story? 🔔Check the link in bio for last minute charter deals for summer 2025! I was teaching a class once in really solid wind. We were close hauled, nicely heeled over, everyone focused. Trim. Traffic. Boat speed. Calls. Adjustments. And then one student paused, looked around, and said, “Hey… we’re actually out here. We’re sailing. This is pretty amazing.” And it stopped all of us for a second. Because they were right. In the middle of trying to do everything perfectly, it’s easy to forget you’re actually doing the thing. You don’t have to wait to feel like a “real sailor.” If you’re out there learning, feeling the wind, moving through the water, you’re already doing it. #SailingLife #LearnToSail #SailingLessons #OnTheWater #boatlife

How to SAIL into the WIND: Well… you can’t! Here I have shown the points-of-sail. The closest into the wind you could sail is about 45° give or take the type of vessel. If you had an up-wind destination, you would tack back-and-forth to get there. Your tracks would look like a zigzag as you keep tacking. #howtoboating #howto #boating #sailing #yachting #boat #sailboat #sail #yacht #regatta #yachting #captain #closehauled
