1. Schema therapy by Young says that the child part reacts to overload faster than the rational mind, and ignoring it makes every decision feel heavier. Within days his decisions became calmer and clearer. Researchers explained that attention to the child part restores a basic sense of inner support. 2. In the IFS model by Schwartz, the small internal part creates resistance when it is silenced. In one study a man added a short evening question: “What am I feeling right now?” Within a few days he stopped reacting harshly in situations where he used to break down. His decisions became more steady. Researchers said this reduces the inner noise that was blocking clarity for years. 3. Allan Schore wrote that early emotional patterns live in the body and shape adult behavior. In one experiment people were asked to make a small caring gesture toward themselves, as if toward a child. Within several days participants noticed that their usual inner tightness was fading. Their choices became more natural instead of forced. Researchers explained that even minimal self attention lowers internal defenses. 4. German psychologists explored how the way a person treats their own wishes reflects in their relationships. One man noticed that people treated him strictly as long as he treated himself the same way. When he began allowing himself small wishes without explanations, interactions changed. There was more softness and respect. Researchers called this the mirror effect, meaning the world repeats a person’s inner tone. 5. In Zurich participants were asked to record one evening gesture for their child part. After a week many reported less inner tension. Participant said: “It is the first time I heard myself without inner pressure.” Her choices became simpler and more confident. Researchers concluded that this connection is not about sentimentality, it is about the basic stability that supports adult life. ✨SCHEMA MODES✨ baby! Schema Therapy has been shown to be an incredibly effective treatment for BPD. . Schema therapy operates around Schema Modes (which are based upon our Early Maladpative Schemas) and those modes are divided into: Child modes, Maladaptive Parent modes and Maladaptive Coping Strategies… yes it gets complicated lol, I have a blog post breaking all of this down (link in bio). Schema Modes are these sort of ineffective roles we slip into under pressure, survival tactics we use to get by. So our Vulnerable Child may react to an unmet emotional need by crying out for others to meet this need for them… which causes such emotional stress that the Detached Protector might take over. . (Vulnerable Child and Detached Protector are two of MANY modes! These are just my most common modes.
