How to write (your best script) First thing is to become selfless, become the audience 🧑‍🤝‍🧑 Write what you would have stopped to listen. All your writing should hit one of these pillars 1. Information 2. Connection 3. Inspiration 4. Entertainment And your first draft is a DUFD. Write again.

Delete these words from your writing 🚫 Before we start, I’m going to give the obvious disclaimer that there’s nuance to this, and you shouldn’t take a catchy hook as a hard rule. The following words can often be deleted from your prose just because there are often stronger, more effective ways to write. That said, if there are places where you think they work, LEAVE THEM IN. Also, this doesn’t count for dialogue. . SUDDENLY: See if you can convey suddenness instead of writing ‘suddenly’. For example, you could swap ‘suddenly, the door opened’ to ‘the door burst open’. . FELT: (As in the past tense of ‘to feel’, not the fuzzy fabric.) There are some cases where this word works fine, but see if your sentence could be stronger if you described the feeling instead of just saying ‘he felt X’. For example, instead of ‘he felt agitated’, show him pacing, write his scattered thoughts, describe his fidgeting, and so on. SAW/HEARD: Sometimes these words have a purpose, but they can often be replaced with something stronger and more direct. Instead of ‘he heard a man walking’ you could write ‘footsteps echoed down the hallway’. This can be more vivid. It allows readers to experience sights/sounds firsthand instead of filtering them through the character’s perspective. . SEEMED: Again, this word has its place. If you want your sentence to sound more direct and concise, remove it. If you want to keep an air of uncertainty, keep it. How to write a book👇 1. The idea - use Pinterest or writing prompts to get you that one idea - this is the premise your book will be based off of - it doesn’t have to be a completed story yet, just one idea and it could be anything 2. Starting - some people like to plan their plot, others like to just start writing and see what happens - either way works well - if you like plotting then try to write down everything you want to happen but remember that this can always change; you are not bound by your plan 3. Decide the voice - whose perspective are you telling this story from? This will affect how you write - try to write within the personality of this person - or if it’s a third person narrator make sure it’s clear who the main character(s) are - the reader follows this person through their journey 4. The catalyst - an event that occurs near the beginning of the book that sets off the whole chain of events which leads your main character(s) to the climax - maybe it’s the declaration of a goal they want to achieve, maybe someone has been captured and they have to rescue them - make sure something happens within the first two chapters that furthers the story 5. The climax - this is the most important moment in your book - it is what everything leads up to and everything that happens after stems from it - this can be a death or a battle or a realisation - think about how you get to it from the catalyst - what challenges your characters might face, what relationships might be formed - this journey should not be linear - there should be set backs and side quests 6. Character development and subplots - these are the secondary parts of your book after the main plot but equally as important - make sure your characters have multiple ties to others and your subplots are well integrated; don’t make them separate from the main plot and make sure they contribute to the conclusion This is your first draft, don’t worry about editing as you go, just write - eventually it will feel natural 📚 #becausepeopledie #writing #writer #writingcommunity #writersofinstagram #bookstagram #accountsunder1k #author #creativewriting #reading #books #book #booksta #fypage
