🧵The BEST sewing hack no.1: How to make a consistent double-fold hem quickly without measuring, marking, pressing or even pinning ! 🧵🪡 1. Cut a strip of cardboard with a smooth & shiny side (ice lolly packets work well ♻️) . 2. Affix to your sewing machine with sticky tape (shiny side up to help the fabric slide through) and position it in front of the machine foot where the fabric will feed through to be sewn. . 3. Align the raw edge of the fabric you want to double-hem with the edge of the cardboard and then fold the cardboard as you would fold the hem keeping the fabric wrapped inside. This will keep the fabric in the double folded position if you continue to apply a little light pressure as you feed the fabric through and sew. . 4. ✨Ta-da!✨ a quick and easy way to double hem without marking, pressing or pinning…and with just a piece of cardboard! ♻️🧵 What do you think? . A pin hem is basically a beginners rolled hem because you dont have to mess around with different feet or have a fancy machine 🥰. It’s also the easiest way to make your sewing look professional and couture 💅🏼. This hem is perfect for lightweight, sheer or silky fabrics because it gets folded twice, and looks beautiful inside and out. If you’re wanting to use a pin hem on an edge with a curve, I recommend snipping the fabric in before folding as it lets some of the tension out. #teaganjacobs

So this year, I’m adding a new role: 🧵 Sewing machine teacher to my friend. Try On & Mark New Length Decide how much shorter you want the jeans. Mark the new desired length with chalk or a pin. 2. Measure Hem Allowance Measure the height of the original hem (usually ½”–¾”). Subtract that from the amount you want to shorten. For example, if you’re shortening by 2”, subtract the ¾” hem allowance → cut 1¼” above the original hem. 3. Fold & Pin Fold the jeans up toward the outside (so the hem is now above the fold), matching your measurement. Pin all the way around. 4. Sew Just Below the Original Hem Stitch close to the original hem line (about ⅛” below it). This secures the new length. 5. Trim Excess Fabric (optional) Trim off the excess fabric inside, leaving a ¼” seam allowance. Finish the raw edge with a zigzag stitch or serger. 6. Press the Fold Down Press the new seam flat and topstitch if needed to secure the flap.

How to sew a blind hem stitch: read below 👇  A blind hem stitch is used to create a hem that is not visible once finished, It's quick and simple and it joins two pieces of fabric with practically invisible seams.  Use a matching thread and a single thread for lightweight fabrics and double thread for medium weight fabrics. Fold the hem twice, insert the needle into the folded edge and hide the knot. Take 1 or 2 threads from the wrong side and pull the needle through. Insert the needle into the folded edge and sew a small stitch. Repeat until you reach the end of the hem.
