Holidays can be tough, especially if you’re in recovery or living sober. Being around family gatherings where a lot of folks might still be drinking or using can be challenging. Plus every family has a lot of history and not everybody has begun the healing process. Just set up clear boundaries to support yourself and ask for what you need from others. There should be mutual respect of boundaries, so respect there’s too. If people are ignoring your boundaries you might need to question whether that relationship is mutually nurturing. Also if things start feeling stressful, to reset, move your body to move your mind! #sober #riserecoverthrive

1. Cravings pass They feel intense, but they’re temporary and manageable with the right strategies. (they usually only last 30 minutes) 2. You don’t have to explain yourself Your journey is personal and you owe no one an explanation. Most people don’t care at all or don’t even realize you’re not drinking. 3. Social anxiety improves The initial discomfort fades, and you become more confident than ever without alcohol. 5. You won’t lose everyone Some relationships deepen, and new, meaningful ones replace toxic old ones. 6. Non-alcoholic alternatives help They’re useful for social gatherings, helping you blend in and stay comfortable. 7. Feeling emotions is powerful You become stronger when you stop numbing your feelings. You begin to heal the reasons you drank in the first place instead of masking them. 8. Mornings become your favorite Waking up refreshed and proud beats sleeping off a hangover. Being proud of yourself is a high you don’t have to chase. 9. Sober fun is real Alcohol blasts you with dopamine, so when you stop drinking things feel a little dull in the beginning, but then the normal things you stopped enjoying start to light you up again. Yes, I’ll cry watching a sunrise. 10. You’re not missing out Yes, you’re “missing out” on another “rerun” night of drinking, but you stop missing out on the rest of life. Like reaching your goals, impressing yourself, having more energy, higher integrity, loving yourself, making more money, a deeper sense of meaning. If you want your sobriety to stick, you NEED 👇 A plan. I know it sounds cliché, but a goal without a plan is just a wish. ✅️ You WILL be tempted. ✅️ You WILL be triggered. ✅️ You WILL feel like giving up on a whim because it's so much easier to go back to the norm; to resort to what's comfortable because you know how to do it. This is exactly what happened to me. I was nearly 2 months sober, and I went to a pool party - without a plan. I had a goal of not drinking, but seeing everyone else drinking so freely left me feeling like an outsider. 😞 I felt insecure and self-conscious, and my brain told me alcohol would fix everything... (LIES). I immediately (and almost without thinking) resorted to the wine. 🍷 All the prior hard work and determination down the drain, without so much as a second thought. 🤷♀️ Today, I am coming up on 2 years of sobriety. The difference this time around is that I followed a plan. 👌 Everyone's plan will look different. For some who are just beginning the journey, the plan may involve NOT attending triggering events. For me, the plan still involves avoiding events where I know most everyone around me will be drinking, and if it's something I really don't want to miss 👇 ➡️ I bring my own non-alcoholic alternatives - sparkling water or NA beer usually. 🔆 ➡️ I also make sure to drive so I can leave early if I need to. 🚗 ➡️ I focus on how I want the night to end and how grateful I will be in the morning when I wake up with no regrets or anxiety. 🙌 ➡️ I am constantly reminding myself why I started. 💪 ➡️ And I set clear boundaries. ✋️ The point is, you need a PLAN. 💯 ✨️ 💬 SHARE IN THE COMMENTS 👇 Do you have a plan for this long holiday weekend? ..................................................................................... Alcohol is responsible for 1 in every 20 deaths worldwide 🤯 and while I think we have come a long way as a society, so many of us still refuse to recognize just how harmful alcohol is. We will choose to spend hundreds of dollars on supplements, utilize saunas, workout everyday, eat a clean diet, but then binge drink on the weekends or have a glass of wine every night with dinner. Letting go of alcohol for good will have a SIGNIFICANT, positive impact on your overall health. Not only will you not become 1/20, but you will also experience better sleep, improved mental health, clearer skin, a stronger immune system, and reduced bloating… and you don’t have to do it alone! No Booze Crew hosts women’s meetings every other Wednesday on Zoom for an hour to support you on your alcohol-free journey. You don’t have to be at rock bottom. You don’t have to identify as an addict. You don’t have to have struggled for years. You can just want better for yourself and generations to come.

Spent a lot of time planning out my non-alcoholic drinks for the night so I had to share! Hoping this provides some inspiration for the other sober humans of the world #sober #goingout

No one ever wants to hear my answer when I’m asked, but how did you become two years sober? How’d you start? My answer is complicated. My answer is more about self and routines and organization than it is about anything else. I didn’t follow yoga. I didn’t mediate or journal. Well, that’s not true. I did try both of those things, but that’s not what got me to where I am. I tried everything in the beginning I thought I was supposed to. But those things didn’t help me say no to a drink at a party. What got me to where I am is by focusing on my space, my routines, my organization, my home, reducing manageable stress, going to events that I wanted to go to and just living my life that I wanted every single day. (And also learning about the poison alcohol is.) I didn’t avoid events. I made no new friends. I didn’t associate early sobriety with depression or being lonely. I associated sobriety with productivity and goal achievement. I didn’t even mean to do this when I started. But looking back, it is exactly what got me here. Part of that was my home refresh. Now I’m not saying rip out all your floors…. what I am saying is: get rid of the things that no longer serve you and surround yourself by things that you love, declutter, know where your things are. Focus on the things you’ve been putting off. 💕make room for the next chapter. 💕 #sober #soberlife #sobercurious #soberliving #sobermotivation
