This animation gets me every single time because for me it depicts my alcohol addiction to a T! Hanging around the “Offie” aged 14 drinking cans to fit in. That turned to social drinking. Then I was socialising AND drinking indoors. I then stopped socialising and ONLY drank indoors. That developed from drinking beer and wine into vodka because there were less calories… and I soon realised I got a much quicker hit … ( no shit Sherlock ) and my life got darker, and darker, to the point that the lights nearly went completely out. This January I will be 7 years sober, and there’s not a day that goes by that I don’t feel the luckiest man alive. If you’re struggling, let me be the proof that change is absolutely possible. I have managed to lose quite a bit of weight with very little effort because I have healed myself mentally and physically, since quitting alcohol in June 2024. I’m 60 days sober today🎉 Wanted to be sober already last year, but failed many times. Wasn’t ready. But it was a start. After my birthday celebrations in November I was done, I felt like Rafiki saying IT IS TIME. I just understood no one else would root for my sober aspirations if I don’t root for myself and set boundaries. Cause no one else is waking up hungover in my body and brain but me😆 Maybe I got a bit bitter about all the drunk bonding that never seemed to lead to sustainable friendships… like… why tf did we just talk for 235 hours for then… I’m already on the spectrum so I don’t need to make human interactions even more confusing.
