Basting the edges of a quilt on the longarm frame is an important step to combat shrinkage and help keep things square! The Bernina Q series longarms have a stitch mode dedicated to basting, with settings for 1, 2, and 4 stitches per inch. Here I am using the half inch stitches to baste along the bottom edges of the quilt before adding side clamps and stitching the last row. I like to put them within the seam allowance so they do not need to be removed. First quilt block of 2025 ✨ An easy square in a square 🌷 Simply use two 10” squares and trim 2” strips Sew opposite strips on opposite squares to create a contrasting border. Finished block size is around 9” 🪡 and you can trim to size if needed! A great patchwork project for smaller pieces of fabric and layer cakes.
