Save and share this post with someone who has been or is planning to travel to Steep Point, WA 🙌🏽 Those who have been to Shelter Bay/ Steep Point know the track and know how challenging this track is! Especially the hills on the way over 📈 The footage was so hard to get as we were bouncing around and trying to keep the drone and phone steady but close enough for you all to see! We had soooo many messages and people coming to see us asking, “How did you get this to Steep Point!” To be honest, we knew it was a difficult track but had no idea how challenging it was until after really. It wasn’t until people started to message us we realised. We even had a couple walk up to our campsite at Denham and ask how we did it! Here is a rundown of our experience for those who are wanting to take your caravan to this campground. • Towing vehicle needs to have some power! And we don’t say that lightly! On the way in there are a couple of steep soft sand hills and unless your vehicle can pull you for a long length of time up a soft sandy hill, you might need to leave the caravan behind 🤷🏼‍♀️ • Drop your psi to under 20 for both car and caravan. There are warning signs before you head in to do this and there is a reason why! • Purchase a @lyferv caravan! Hahaha jokes aside our slimline, light weight composite van is a weapon and we honestly think she’d go anywhere without falling apart! • Do not go alone!!! Cannot stress this enough, if you are taking your van, you need to have people with you in case something goes wrong! You will most likely get bogged somewhere along the track but there is nowhere to turn around especially on the hill section. Have someone with you hands down! • Tie everything down so there is no movement inside and outside of your car and van to avoid damage. The woops are wide and deep and you need to keep up speed, she’s bouncy! • Stop and check your car and caravan throughout the track just to make sure everything is in place. I'M ON A MISSION to walk solo and self-supported from the furthest west point of the Australian mainland (Steep Point, Western Australia) to the furthest east point (Cape Byron, New South Wales), through the heart of the country. After more than four months of hiking, I can celebrate reaching the centre of Australia (Lambert's Centre), marking the halfway point of my human-powered adventure. Along the way I have raised more than $30,000 for an Australian charity supporting Australia's youth. The charity @batyraus runs programs in schools and universities, and elsewhere within our communities, to help remove the stigma associated with talking about our experiences with mental ill health. Rates of psychological distress among our youth are increasing at scary rates, and we can all play a role in reversing the trend. STEEP POINT | WA Have you been to the most western point of Australia? If you’re travelling around Australia and have a 4WD, don’t skip this bucketlist destination! If standing at the edge of Australia isn’t enough, you can indulge in beachfront camping around the corner at Shelter Bay. Beautiful turquoise waters with an abundance of wildlife, we saw sharks, turtles, manta rays and whales. We planned to spend 1 night here but ended up staying for 3! Well, if you’ve ever been up to Steep Point in Western Australia, you’ll know that the road out there, Useless Loop Road, is SHOCKING!!! Broke the welds on the chassis mounts for the tray mounts!! After a bit of repair work, the 79 is back and ready for the next adventure!!
