Wave selection can take forever to learn. But if you understand the fundamentals you can shorten the learning process. Waves are simple: they are ramps of water that get steeper as they get closer to shore. You have to choose a ramp that is the perfect steepness. Too steep and you will nose dive. Too mellow and the wave will pass under you as you paddle for it. Just right and you will catch it. Once you understand this principle it’s time to take it into the water to test it. This is something that takes a lot of time because your brain just isn’t used to looking at water to see how steep it is. Never lose faith, your brain will adapt and learn. And Remember: no two breaks are exactly alike. Wave selection is a little bit different at every break. Fixing The Reverse Spine Angle Vencel was creating a lot of “steepness” in his swing, large divots with a lot of “down” going on. ❤️The hardest part of skiing with kids isn’t the steepness of the slopes. It’s the big outburst of emotion either half-way down a run or at the end of the day. Your child isn’t being misbehaved They are not spoilt And they are definitely NOT trying to ruin your holiday. Little ones brains are in development. Emotions take over language and body control When they lose their words, moan, scream, shout�They are not doing this out of free will Their brain’s emotional centre hasn’t developed a buffer to support them yet and they have immature skills to cope with big feelings. I don’t have a magic wand, but here are some tips to help you: 💚Start with the obvious: Warmth, food, rest. Low blood sugar, cold fingers, and/or exhaustion are sure ways of firing up bug emotional outbursts. 💙Stay steady, keep quiet. The more you use logic or shout, the more you escalate. ♥️Name the feeling, don’t try and fix the skiing Instead of: “You need to bend your knees more, like this” (a sure way of getting your child to scream) Try: “You’re frustrated and cold. We are going to stop and get a snack. Let’s get to the end of this run. I will help you” If you are skiing, it’s OK to call it a day.
