How much out of crate time should a 13 week old puppy get? Young pups = not a whole lot of time out of the crate! Why? Puppies (in many ways) are a lot like babies - and they need a lot of sleep. When they don’t get the rest and sleep they need, they get cranky. In puppies, this looks like them doing more nipping, biting, chewing barking and overall worse behavior. Self-supervised learning is a technique where a model learns useful representations from unlabeled data by creating pretext tasks. These tasks are designed so that the input data provides its own supervision signal. For example, in natural language processing, models like BERT use masked language modeling, where some words are hidden and the model learns to predict them based on context. In computer vision, a model might be trained to predict the rotation of an image or to fill in missing parts. By solving these tasks, the model captures underlying patterns in the data, which can then be transferred to downstream tasks such as classification, detection, or segmentation.
