DROP JUMP – Testing Reactive Strength The drop jump test forms a core part of our athletic performance testing battery. We use this test to assess an athlete’s reactive strength or how springy and ‘elastic’ they are. Reactive strength represents an athlete’s ability to reverse as fast as possible an eccentric to a concentric action by developing high forces in minimal time. This physical quality is highly associated with dynamic performance in acceleration, max velocity sprinting and change of direction tasks. An athlete’s reactive strength can be quantified using the reactive strength index (RSI) which is a proxy to fast stretch shortening cycle performance and rate of force development. While there are multiple collection methods and calculations, we use the drop jump to assess RSI. 📌 Drop Jump vs Depth Jump: no, non sono la stessa cosa ⚠️ Spesso vengono confusi o messi nello stesso calderone, ma tra il metodo d’urto di Verkhoshansky e il Drop Jump di Bosco ci sono differenze fondamentali sia di natura biomeccanica che per gli adattamenti neurofisiologici che ne derivano. 🔻 Drop Jump (Komi, Bosco): • Nasce per valutare la stiffness e la forza reattiva • Vincolo principale: mantenere il tempo di contatto al suolo il più breve possibile • Angoli al ginocchio molto aperti (130–150°) • Usato anche come test: spesso con mani sui fianchi per standardizzare • Focus sulla risposta elastico-riflessa . Di norma si usano altezze di caduta inferiori al depth jump 🔻 Depth Jump / Metodo d’urto (Verkhoshansky): • Obiettivo: massima altezza nel salto senza vincoli di tempo di contatto • Angoli al ginocchio chiusi (<90°) per massimizzare l’azione frenante e poi esplosiva • Forte coinvolgimento volontario e neurogeno • È sbagliato chiamarlo pliometria: il carico nasce da un impatto controllato, non da SSC el puro ⚠️ Verkhoshansky stesso sottolineava che il metodo d’urto “non è pliometria”, ma un metodo distinto, con una sua identità e logica neurofisiologica. 👟 Nel video, il depth jump che eseguo ha un’escursione minore rispetto al classico metodo d’urto: angoli un po’ più aperti, e questo è importante sottolinearlo .In condizioni standard, l’escursione potrebbe essere più ampia 📌 E il metodo Bosco-Pittera? Esiste anche una terza variante, con partenza accovacciata sul plinto e angoli di 90–110°.
