Comment “MATH” for the link to over 200 editable word problems perfect for 2nd-3rd grade. Word problems can be a doozy especially when you introduce multiplication and division into the mix. The best way I found to teach word problems is to break it down into “4 squares” that way you can see exactly where the kiddo is struggling and help them. This problem in specific, I noticed a lot of kiddos just want to add 3 + 4 but once they break it down, represent it using a drawing I see the light bulbs go off and they can understand why it’s multiplication 3 x 4 and not 3 + 4. #iteachthird #iteachsecond #tpt #elementarymath #mathteacher #wordproblems

I use these math mats for my small group, tutorials and take home folder for extra practice at home. Goal is to have kiddos understand the “why” behind multiplication versus just memorizing facts. We tried out this new multiplication game today and my 4th graders loved it! They got to compete against each other and work with their team to be the first group finished, with accurate answers of course!
