#sponsored Tiny Beans Play Cafe is now open!! This new indoor playground in the Chesapeake, VA area is located in Great Bridge and designed for children ages 0-7. The owners of Tiny Beans Play Cafe, Caitlin and Bri, wanted to create their own place for parents to unwind while their kids could play safely. Their hope was that parents could sit back, sip a specialty coffee, and watch their children play without worrying. The open play space means that parents can see their little ones easily while sitting at the coffee bar. The soft padded play structures mean that toddlers can engage in independent play safely. Parents are welcome to go inside the play area of course, but after a few minutes, they soon realize that there is no need to hover! Even super clingy toddlers (like my own) who never spend more than a minute away from mom soon discover the joy of independent play and make new friends while parents socialize with each other in a worry-free setting. Everyone loves the idea of owning a play café… but here’s what it actually takes to run one. 👀 We get asked all the time if it’s profitable — and truthfully, it can be. But when you’re constantly fixing, upgrading, and improving your space like we are, most of those profits go right back into the business. 💸 High overhead (think rent, payroll, cleaning, maintenance, insurance), managing staff, and navigating the ups and downs of a seasonal business all come with the territory. And don’t even get us started on behavior management 😅 — while parents are supposed to supervise their children, we often have to step in when play gets too rough and without offending the parents. This is a special skill on its own. Running a play café is a labor of love — and we wouldn’t trade it for anything. But it’s far from easy. Would you open a play cafe? My one year old has so much energy, but there are not many places we can go yet because he is too small and isn’t walking, so I’ve been searching for places to take him! @jujuba.play.cafe was perfect for helping him burn that that energy, without the threat of getting bowled over by a bigger kid, and I could see such a change in his confidence after one visit! Top tip, it started to quieten down around lunch time, so if you want the whole place pretty much to yourself, head there around 12.00!
