If you asked me IRL, here’s the answer so I don’t have to explain for the billionth time! 😂 💰 THIS IS HOW MY TRAVEL BLOG MAKES MONEY 💰 - by which I mean website! I don’t make money from social media - 60% display ads on the website (@mediavine; you need 50k monthly readers to apply) - readers don’t need to click on them, just see them - 40% ish affiliate marketing (no minimum no. of readers to start) - I place links to hostels, tours, insurance etc and when customers make a purchase with Hostelworld, Viator etc, I get around 10%. I don’t have to talk to the companies individually as @travelpayouts handle that Those are my top methods but other ways to monetise include hosting group tours, producing sponsored content (organised on an ad-hoc basis with brands who want coverage whether it’s staying in their hotel or promoting a product etc), selling digital products, making courses etc 💰I’ve been blogging since 2017 and it took until 2020 to make a penny/cent. 💻 I don’t pay anything to get people on my site, my traffic comes from Google thanks to the SEO I do (self-taught) 💵 My income is in the thousands each month (GBP) and my website costs around £70 a month to run (website hosting, research tools, Shutterstock photo subscription etc) Any questions?
