READ CAPTION ⬇️⬇️⬇️ this was the very last day of year 12. i walked into the senior building, which was filled with pink balloons and confetti and ran straight to my year level coordinators office. the night before: i lost my boyfriend. i lost my best friend. everyone else hated me - i had no friends. nobody liked me anymore. nobody wanted me around. i might as well disappear - at least everyone would be happier. it felt like the world was against me, and i didn’t know what i had done. what did i do to all these people? did i do something to deserve this? i must have. this is my karma. for what? i’m not sure. but i must be a horrible person—that’s what it seems like—so yeah, i deserve this. i had it coming. as a chronic people pleaser, this was my worst nightmare come to life. all i wanted to do was cry. everyone was so happy, and i had to pretend like their words and actions didn’t affect me. as a school captain, i had to deliver a speech to the whole school. so, despite my feelings, i spoke about how proud i was of everybody and how exciting today was. i gave optimistic advice to everyone, when really, all i wanted to say was: “year 12 was the absolute worst year of my life, and it would just be better for everyone if i wasn’t here anymore.” in hindsight, was it that serious? no, probably not. but, my feelings were incredibly hurt by the people i thought i loved and trusted. even though i had plenty of people who DID care, my emotions made me think otherwise — i was prioritising the wrong people, and had my back turned to my friends and family who were there for me the whole time. my point? you don’t have to do anything alone. if the world is against you, why should you also be against yourself? and even then, there will always be SOMEONE that cares for you, whether you realise it or not. you will always make mistakes. you are human. figure out who is actually “filling your cup” rather than “emptying it.” put your time and energy into the relationships where you feel loved and valued as a person. 🫂 not everyone is going to like you, so focus on the people that DO. 🙂‍↔️ #burnout #highschool #year12 #academicvalidation #stress #mentalhealth

I BURNT OUT IN YEAR 12 ⬇️ + MY STORY (read caption) 🥰 i was a MAJOR perfectionist and MAJOR procrastinator. i left everything last minute, but still NEEDED A+ grades to feel as though i was worth something in this world (self-inflicted—not due to a parent, although they were proud of my results and expected them to continue). i had been told to speak to a school counsellor numerous times over the years, beginning from year 9, but had dismissed it again and again because “my problems weren’t problems, other people have it worse and i don’t want to take away their resources.” it wasn’t until halfway through year 12—when i crying all day, all night, not getting sleep, still working part-time and dancing 2-3x a week, friendship/relationship commitments and issues, family problems, had numerous assessments/drafts due/overdue because of my procrastination habits (the list goes on)—where my year level coordinator intervened and told me to reach out to someone. seriously. the day i stepped foot into my school counsellor’s office was the first time i thought to myself: “thank god i’m finally here.” and i didn’t even tell her anything of substance in that first session. whilst it’s true—i am very privileged to be able to stress about grades and not about living paycheck to paycheck with no home, no food, etc. it reminded me that the resources are there for a reason, and that there are other young people right now living the exact same reality. it’s important to recognise your privilege, but you are a person too. you deserve to be heard. you deserve to feel happiness. you are allowed to feel the way you do. although i did succeed as the school dux (99.95 ATAR adj.) school captain and sport captain, i recently found out that i am rather used as an example of what “not to end up like.” it’s true. to find out my mission & goal for 2025, feel free to read the rest on TikTok (in bio). you can show your support by engaging on this post 🫂🥰 #procrastination #burnout #academicvalidation #year12 #highschool #trauma #mystory #viral #relatable #student #study
