Looking forward to tucking into this pumpkin/ squash from my 2025 harvest. Cannot wait to get my hands dirty again when it warms up. Six weeks to go!

When to harvest pumpkins 🎃 Even if your pumpkins look ready, leaving them on the vine a little longer helps the flesh deepen in colour and flavour. Although the vine may start to yellow, those final and important stages of maturity are still happening. We keep an eye on the forecast and leave them in place until just before the first frost 🥶. #kawakawafarm #farmshop #saladandsurplus #sprayfree #lovetaupo

When to pick a Jap/Kent Pumpkin 🙌 Lucky for me, this vine popped up from compost used in this garden bed. I had the space so left it to do its thing, and now I’m reaping the rewards. Jap pumpkins are a true beauty of the pumpkin world. Always showing up on flavour as well as versatility in the kitchen, being great for roasting and soups. Generally speaking, a Jap pumpkin is ready to pick whe this milky coating covers the whole pumpkin. It will start out quite faint, but the milkiness will deepen over time. Once it looks like this pumpkin, it’s good to harvest. You can eat it straight away, or you can store this variety in a cool dark space for a few months. Be sure to place it on its side until the stem completely dries out or moisture can build up around the stem and rot the fruit. The ultimate winter trio: Kabocha, Spaghetti, and Butternut squash are in season! 🍂✨ Ask about bulk availability. Stesanproduce.com #wintersquash #kabocha #spaghettisquash #butternut #stesanproduce

Roasted or soup? We love the vegetables that can store for several months and add variety to what we have. If your winter squashes change color, that is normal and fine. Even if they develop a spot in the rind, just cut it out and the rest of the squash is good. Come see us for all kinds of good things to eat in each season.
