I originally planned for the paintings to be abstract, ethereal, figureless… then very quickly felt the need to add in characters to complete the story. With a lack of time I resorted to paper-cutouts of poses, which actually helped alot in checking if a silhouette is reading. All a blessing in disguise and I made it 🙂‍↕️✨ . The more you use, the more you have.” Maya Angelou I’ve found this to be very true in my own practice, especially when I keep a balance between whimsy and discipline 🧚🏻‍♀️🤓 Creativity seems to expand the more consistently I show up for it. When I combine the joy of discovery with the habit of returning to the canvas, ideas start to flow more easily. Whimsy 🧚🏻‍♀️ I try to stay curious and present so my brain always has something to draw from. I love wandering through galleries, getting lost in books, or collecting little pockets of inspiration on Pinterest. Small rituals help too. A favourite ceramic mug, decorating my home and studio with little things that make the space feel magical. When the environment feels nice, the work feels lighter. Discipline 💪🏼 This is the ritual part for me. Inspiration does not always arrive dramatically, so I try to show up consistently anyway. Some days that means hours of painting. Other days it might only be ten minutes. Deadlines also help me turn ideas into real pieces rather than letting them stay in my head. For me the sweet spot is somewhere in the middle. Creativity stays playful, but it is still something I practice consistently. I’ve found that balance to be the secret recipe. Too much of either and the tap seems to close. That middle ground is where ideas actually make their way onto the canvas without burnout. It takes effort to protect both the playfulness and the structure, but when they work together the process feels sustainable 💜 #whimsicalart #oilpaintingart #artinspo #landscapeoilpainting
