Appellative Sprache Da dieser Schreibstil nicht nur in literarischen Texten, sondern auch in Reden, Essays und Werbung eingesetzt wird, ist ein wichtiges Merkmal, dass die Leser:innen direkt angesprochen werden. Mehr noch, sie werden aufgerufen und aufgefordert, bestimmte Dinge zu tun oder zu hinterfragen. 2.) Rhetorische Mittel Rhetorische Fragen (zuhauf im Beispiel von Robert Menasse zu finden) lenken die Aufmerksamkeit der Leser:innen und regen zum Nachdenken an. Um abstrakte Konzepte anschaulicher zu machen bzw. den Text lebendiger wirken zu lassen, werden Metaphern, Analogien (zwei Dinge/Sachverhalte sind in einigen, aber nicht allen Merkmalen ähnlich und werden verglichen), Vergleiche verwendet. 3.) Logische Argumentation Um die Sinnhaftigkeit der eigenen Meinung darzustellen, werden Argumente gegenübergestellt und logisch miteinander verknüpft. 4.) Gefühlsbetonte Sprache Es werden bewusst Emotionen wie Freude, Empörung oder Mitgefühl erzeugt, um die Leserschaft emotional zu involvieren (im Auszug vom Roman "Hauptstadt" Ungeduld). Anhand von Anekdoten oder persönlich erlebten Geschichten wird die Thematik noch greifbarer und emotional verankert. 5.) Stilistische Eleganz Rhetorische Texte wollen inhaltlich und stilistisch überzeugen, daher werden kunstvolle Formulierungen eingesetzt. Um die Aufmerksamkeit der Leserschaft zu binden, wechseln sich kurze und lange Sätze ab. Zur Vermittlung der eigenen (subjektiven) Meinung, werden beim rhetorischen Schreibstil sprachliche Mittel eingesetzt, um die Leserschaft aktiv zu beeinflussen.
