Colourwork Knitting Graph Paper I designed and produced some knitting graph paper to help me when planning my stranded colourwork designs. Instead of the standard square grid, I created a knit stitch inspired shape which I then tessellated to help visualise my sketches as knitted up fabric. Each graph comes in three stitch sizes, three line weights and two orientations. The graphs are optimised for print and also layered with vector shapes for digital manipulation. Experimenting with all the grid variations (both physical and digital) has been helpful for all kinds of colourwork planning. I can print them off to colour in by hand or use them for very quick digital sketching. I designed the graphs to plan my next knit project for my Cedar Chest Project, in which I am designing motifs and creating repeating fair isle patterns. However, I’m also experimenting with them to produce more random colourwork patterns inspired by colour palettes, objects, plant life and even my own knitted and sewn garments. I thought you might find them useful so I put them online for you to download and use too. You can find them in the usual spot. I hope you enjoy playing around with these knit graphs as much as I do. Prompt 13/14 for #blenderbonanza26 8-9 MAY JACQUARD-INSPIRED Create a pattern that mimics a woven jacquard-use tonal color, subtle contrast, and avoid bold outlines. Focus on a fabric-like texture and tonal variation. A simplified floral, leaf print, or a simple bold geometric would work great! I went for texture with this one. I played with different motifs at first layering the texture on top with a clipping mask but nothing felt quite right. I kept coming back to the initial hand-drawn stitches I had made because I liked their simplicity. When I added colour it began to come to live. I kept to a handful of colours, keeping it tonal but adding just enough variety to create movement. When the pattern is at a small scale it really mimics the texture of Jacquard.
