4 Underrated Exercises for a Strong Back 🧱 Building a strong back means focusing on movements that hit multiple muscles at once, not just the “mirror” muscles. Isolation exercises that target those “mirror” muscles have their place, but they wouldn’t be at the top of my list. Movements like these that challenge you with ballistic power, isometric strength, and angles you probably aren’t hitting enough. Save this for your next back day, your back will thank you (and so will your posture). Which one of these have you been sleeping on? 👀 #kettlebell #kettlebellexercises #backstrength #functionaltraining #kettlebelltraining #strengthtraining #fitnesstips

💥Basic Strengthening for Low Back Pain💥 💥Back pain can be scary, it can be debilitating and it can leave you wondering what to do, what not to do and overall very apprehensive to move, for fear you might make things worse. 🤷♀️Does this sound like you? If it does, you are NOT alone! 🎉This is where a good healthcare provider comes in. 💥My job as a physical therapist is to reassure my patients that it’s okay to move, it’s also normal to feel some discomfort when starting to move again, and even if you feel some pain during rehab exercises, we are (USUALLY) not making things worse by moving. 💥During my first session with new patients I always make it a point to find movements and exercises that feel good for the patient, ones that don’t recreate any symptoms and start moving and building strength there. This gives patients a lot of confidence & hope and that is sooooo important in rehab!!!! 💥Anyway, everyone is different and what works for my patients may not work for you, but here’s 4 basic strength movements I will introduce as soon as I can (usually day one): 1️⃣ Suitcase Carries - functional, works unilateral strength / stability & most people aren’t fearful of this so it’s a good place to start. 2️⃣ Modified Dead Bugs - holding a weight overhead provides proximal stability and stiffness (helps to keep ribs down and helps to keep back flat) - increasing proximal stiffness increases our ability to isolate and control distal limb movement. This is a regression to a traditional dead bug which focuses on distal control / stability / strength of the anterior core. 3️⃣ RDL’s - functional movement & most people are fearful of these which is why I start them early within a smaller range of motion to improve confidence and begin rebuilding low back / posterior chain strength. 4️⃣ Goblet Squats - another functional movement and another movement many are fearful of doing so I will reduce range here too or have them squat to a box first to reduce fear and strengthen mid/ upper back as well as their legs. Disclaimer: this is NOT medical advice!

There was one realization that changed everything for my back: I had to stop avoiding the weak and tight areas around my spine, and start confronting them. That didn’t mean pushing through pain. It meant no longer using weakness as an excuse. I needed to find a pain free level I could train. Once I started gently training my lower back, abdominals, and hips, I finally got to see my potential for the first time. It was like walking into the gym for the first time when you can only bench the bar, but excited for your potential. My back wasn’t broken. It was just untrained. Training is just one piece of the puzzle when it comes to addressing back issues. If you want to understand the full picture, join my Skool community. It’s linked on my profile.

STOP SCROLLING! This is important information that most people don’t know.. There is a reason we use the word “backbone” a lot in our day to day lives. It’s incredibly important - our spines our the backbone of ALL of our movement and functions. If our spine goes, we go. Think about it - how terrifying is the thought of a spinal injury? We need to be intentionally caring for our spines every single day. These simple movements that I demonstrated here are amazing for daily use but this is just the tip of the ice berg! If you want to learn how to move your spine and practice new classes with me every week then go to the link in my bio and sign up for my membership where I provide you with new weekly videos and a schedule to take the guess work out of caring for your body. Don’t let another day go by where you neglect your spine. 🖤 #spine #spinalhealth #spinehealth #catcow #fitness #mobility
