first time backpacking? here’s the packing system that keeps your gear balanced, organized, and pain-free 👇 ✅ Bottom of the pack = soft stuff (sleeping bag, pad, puffy, pillow) ✅ Middle, tight to your back = heavy items (hydration bladder, jetboil, tent, fuel) ✅ Top = lighter gear + food ✅ Lid & side pockets = tech, camp shoes, toiletries, trash, first aid ✅ Outside = tripod, chair, trekking poles—light but accessible ✅ Hip belt = snacks, emergency gear, paper map 🎯 Final test: Your pack should stand upright = balanced and trail-ready 💬 Comment “GEAR LIST” and I’ll DM you our complete beginner-friendly backpacking checklist! #HowToPackYourBackpack #BackpackingEssentials #OutdoorAdventure #PackingTips #LeaveNoTrace #BackpackingGear

I wish I learned these tricks earlier 🤔👇🏼 Save this for future reference! Learning how to pack a backpack more efficiently is something that takes a lot of time, so I’m hoping to shorten some of that down for you!! All of these hacks have allowed both of us to downsize our packs and not have tons of stuff hanging on the outside. It’s amazing what a little rearranging can do! What I really want to emphasize is that backpacking is a huuuuuge learning experience. We learn something new every single time. And it’s okay to not do it all right the first (or 10th time). What matters is that you’re enjoying your time out there and that you find ways to make it easier on yourself. For a full packing guide and what we bring, we just posted a YouTube video with an entire breakdown of our gear and how we pack it! @the_adventureaddicts on YouTube Do you have any other tips to downsize your pack? (Also I don’t know why I filmed this so high and left everything down at the bottom of the screen where you can barely see it. Will do better next time 😅) #backpacking #backpackinglife #hikinggear #campinglife #hikersofinstagram

How to Pack Your Tent for Backpacking In this video, we discuss the proper way to pack a tent in your backpack. We explain how to remove the tent poles, unroll the tent, and pack the rain fly and tent body separately. We also suggest placing the tent on top of your pack and the poles and stakes in the side and front pockets for easy access. By packing the tent in this more organized way, you can ensure it stays compact and accessible when you reach your campsite. #backpacking #camping #tentpacking #outdoors #howto #backpackingtips #hiking #hikingtips #tent #packingtips #appalachiantrail #hikersofinstagram #thruhike #trekking #marionoutdoors #adventure #ultralightbackpacking #backpackinggear

Share this with a hiker (or soon to be hiker!) Most beginners waste money on gadgets that don’t matter, or think they are saving money on something when it will often cost them in the long run. I’m here to help fix that, and providing you with 5 things that give you massive returns in comfort, safety, and longevity. All recommendations are my own and none of this is sponsored. 1. Offline maps > “My phone will figure it out” Free substitute: Phone network + memory Why it fails: Most trails lose signal. Better: Use apps that work offline so you always know where you are. 2. Smart layering > “Only one jacket” Often misused: Cotton or random winter coat Why it fails: Cotton holds moisture, kills warmth, chills you. Better: A system that manages moisture AND warms even when damp. 3. Flashlight/Headlamp > “Phone flashlight” Free substitute: Your iPhone light Why it fails: Short battery life, one tap and your phone dies. Better: Dedicated lighting = longer runtime + better trail vision 4. Trail runners > “Old sneakers or cheap boots” Free substitute: What you wear today Why it fails: No grip, no protection, high blister / slip risk. Better: Traction, foot protection, and lighter weight. 5. Trekking poles > “Hands only + ego” Free substitute: No poles / old ski poles Why it fails: You manage load badly downhill, fatigue faster. Better: Poles offload knees and improve balance Be sure to follow @outdoorwiseliving for more hiking tips! #hiking101 #hikingtips #hikinggear

Backpacking doesn’t have to be expensive. This is the beginner-friendly setup I’ve used in wind, rain, and snow, including multi-day trips like the Trans-Catalina Trail. It’s not the cheapest gear and it’s not the most expensive… it’s just gear that works. If you’re building your first backpacking kit, I linked my trail-tested gear in my bio so you don’t have to guess.

Backpacking gear wouldn’t and wouldn’t buy again! 🏕️🎒 (part 2) These are just my personal opinions and experiences. A product not working for me doesn’t mean the brand isn’t good or that it won’t work for you!!! Would buy: ✅ Trekking poles from Costco - these were so affordable and have been great! They’re really durable and comfortable to hold. The brand is Cascade Mountain Tech ✅ Stanley adventure pot set - I’ve used this for about 4 years now, it’s awesome and I love that it comes with 2 cups, we always use them for coffee in the mornings! ✅ Katadyn gravity water filter - looooove this, it’s made filtering water so easy and quick and it’s lightweight! It hardly takes up space in your pack. ✅ Ultralight amazon backpacking stove - I just made a video on this but I love this thing. It’s $10, lightweight, compact, and durable. Huge fan! Wouldn’t buy again: ❌Thermarest Neoaor X lite NXT - got this as a gift and it didn’t even make it to the trail. I tested it at home before going on a trip and I’m so glad I did because it completely deflated on its own overnight. I returned it and saw quite a few reviews taking about leaks. I know mine was a dud but it made me hesitant to repurchase and so I went with a different pad instead. This one made me sad, I was sooo excited for this pad 🥲 ❌Cheaper camp pillow - this one wasn’t great for me, it didn’t support my head/neck well and was heavy and bulky to bring backpacking. I don’t have it anymore to film with, I got it off amazon for cheap years ago and after 1 trip I immediately purchased an inflatable one instead. ❌ Store bought fire starters - I make my own now using stuff I already have, so I don’t purchase these anymore! I have a recent video on how to make your own that you can check out if you’re interested! #backpacking #backpackinggear #budgetbackpacking #fyp #camping

3 nights camping in the backcountry - this is how we’re packing our bag! + A LOT more food when we’re ready to go 🙌😄 Did you know that a loaded backpack should weigh around 20% of your body weight! Once you have everything packed, be sure to weigh the bag and reduce the weight if necessary! #backcountrycamping #camping
