Barrel Racing Drill ๐ข๏ธ๐ This drill combines my two favorite things... barrels and ground poles ๐ค๐ป If your horse is struggling with the hoof/eye coordination, balanced circles or staying centered and upright in a turn this drill is for you! (Granted pain/discomfort has already been ruled out) Try it without a barrel, or maybe a pole or cone! I also recommend starting out with the poles a good 2-4 feet away from the barrel. Start out with the bigger circle and work your way down to a smaller circle! If you do feel your horse can lope that inside circle, I strongly suggest moving the ground poles out more and giving them more space. But again I canโt stress it enough, do NOT push it! I also recommend if you havenโt taken your horse over ground poles before starting on the ground first and mastering that before trying it under saddle. Even if your horse has, itโs still good to practice on the ground I only do this drill once a week as again, itโs pretty physically demanding but donโt let that scare you from trying this drill! Just make sure to do it to your horses capability. And hey maybe this is your sign to level up your conditioning routine ๐ As a REMINDER! If your horse constantly struggles with this, as in constantly knocking poles and staying balanced and upright. Please stop and consider contacting your vet. This could be a sign of EPM or body soreness. Horses are always trying to tell us something, LISTEN! DONT expect a drill to fix the issue when pain/discomfort could be at play ๐๐ป Thanks again to @lillygdunn for letting me use CC to showcase this drill! #barrelhorse #barrelracer #barrelracing #barrelracingtips #barrelracingdrills #rodeolife

Check out how our Individual work is unique to each student in our clinics! This student was having a little trouble finding her spot on the second barrel, going out too wide cutting the barrel off on the backside. Josey instructor Terry Thomas helped her out with extra cones to put her in the correct spot for the turn. Check out the difference it made in her run! #joseyranch #barrelrace #barrelracer #rodeo #joseyclinics #barrelracing #barrelhorses

After a friends chronic setting-back horse shattered its poll and โ ๏ธ I do not tolerate it. My favorite method is to teach them to lead correctly in the first place as colts. ๐คฃ My second favorite method, if a horse already has a habit, is use innertube for a few days inbetween the lead and a high and sturdy tree. It has enough give to not injure them badly, and they usually quit. Another method is running a rope through their halter and under their belly, I have not tried this one myself, but have heard it works many times. โ๏ธ The horses that break out of a buckle halter once usually try this again, or let it become habit. ๐ฅด Rope halters tied hard with a good understanding of pressure and release prevents this! ๐๐ฝ Have you dealt with this? What other methods have you used?โ๏ธ๐ฌ #horsetraining #horsemanship #problemhorses (Credit of this video and ownership of the horse is soley MINE- this horse came unknowingly this way- the boarding stable/location has no association or responsibility- video is for training purposes only)

Itโs not just three barrels and a clockโitโs adrenaline, strategy, split-second decisions, and a whole lot of trust between horse and rider. Every run is a lesson, every turn a chance to be better than the last. Letโs run. โฑ๏ธ๐จ #barrelracing #horse #barrelracer #sonya7siii #fyp

Everything you teach on the ground can easily transfer to the saddle, creating a seamless connection between groundwork and riding. By establishing clear communication on the ground, such as with yielding, leading, and body control exercises, the horse learns to respond to cues without the added pressure of a rider. This foundation builds trust and understanding, making the transition to under-saddle work much smoother. Skills like stopping, turning, and even lateral movements are more easily understood by the horse, as theyโve already been practiced and reinforced from the ground. Consistent groundwork not only improves responsiveness but also helps the horse gain confidence, which leads to a more relaxed and willing partner when ridden. - - @ahleriequineproducts - #clickertraining #mares #horses #geldings #coltstarting #positiverenforcement #filly #western #trailriding #R+ #percheron #painthorse #horsetraining #apha #arizona #filly #horseriding
