Cold process vs melt and pour soap? 🧼⬇️ . There are many different ways to make soap, but we do it the “traditional” way by what’s called cold process (CP) soap making. CP soap making is essentially combining fat and lye, letting it saponify (chemical reaction that makes soap), and curing for approximately 4-6 weeks. This results in a harder, longer-lasting bar compared to “melt and pour” type soaps which are quite commercialized. Of course melt and pour has its place, but not here! . What’s so special about CP soap? 🧼 . Compared to melt and pour base soaps, CP soap gives the most control to the soap maker. We are able to create our own recipe of different oils, butters, milks, etc. to perfect the soap we’re creating. We know exactly where each individual ingredient is sourced from, which is very important to many makers, such as myself! . This is vital when talking about the goat milk in my soap. Our goat milk is sourced directly from the goats on our farm. I know that they’re getting the care, nutrition, and respect they deserve. I don’t know the goats making the milk for the melt and pour soap bases, so I wouldn’t feel comfortable using it! 🐐 . The pride I have in making the absolute best soap I can with the highest quality, ethically sourced ingredients cannot be matched. 🌿 Fresh & Earthy Soap Recipe Cold Process | 42 oz Loaf 🧴Oil Blend: • Lard – 714g (60%) • Coconut Oil – 298g (25%) • Avocado Oil – 178g (15%) 🧪 Lye Solution: • Distilled Water – 380g • Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH) – 152g 🌿 Essential Oils: • Lemon – 10g • Tea Tree – 8g • Eucalyptus – 10g • Sandalwood – 8g 🧼 Instructions: 1. Wear gloves + goggles. 2. Mix lye into water. Cool to ~100–110°F. 3. Melt lard + coconut, then add avocado oil — bring oil mixture to 100-110°F. 4. Blend oils + lye to light trace (slightly thickened) 5. Add essential oils. Blend to trace (pudding consistency) 6. Pour into mold + tap to remove air bubbles. 7. Insulate for 24–48 hrs. Cut into bars then cure for 4–6 weeks. 💚 This bar smells like fresh air and earth — grounding, clean, and nourishing.
