Conventional plastic is petroleum derived And not fully biodegradable On the other hand, bioplastics are fully compostable and nourish the ground 🌱 Both polymers, but with such a different impact ✨ When designing, choose wisely 🤍

The truth about “biodegradable” plastic: 1️⃣Conventional Plastics: Made entirely from petroleum, like your typical plastic bags or bottles. They never truly biodegrade.🔥 2️⃣Bio Plastic: The plastic is made with renewable resources (typically plants, such as corn!). But here’s the catch: a bio-based plastic isn’t necessarily biodegradable. 3️⃣”Biodegradable” Plastic: Is often used as a misleading term. It means the material can break down by biological means, but there’s no specific timeframe or environmental condition guaranteed. 4️⃣Industrially Compostable: These are certified (like by TUV & BPI) to break down in less than 3 months in highly specific industrial composting facilities (using high heat, moisture, and special microbes). If it doesn’t hit these conditions, it likely won’t break down. 5️⃣Home Compostable: Certified to break down in less than 6 months in a healthy home compost. These materials actually return vital nutrients like Nitrogen, Phosphorus, and Potassium back to the soil.🐛 Also, a huge thank you to @swaythefuture and @lonelywhale for sending me some samples of their latest seaweed-based materials.
