Often clients ask me to teach them the specific music of an accent or dialect Whether it’s for an upcoming audition, coaching for a specific role, or learning an accent in general, I almost always say “no.” I find almost without exception, that, as soon as an actor tries to focus on the cliché music of a dialect, their ability to be honest and spontaneous in each moment is weakened, and they just start to sounding like they are listening to themselves… because they are. The best way to learn any accent or dialect is to learn to use specific muscle groups that the people who speak that accent or language use, and literally learn to play your instrument the way they do, and in doing so, the music will actually just begin to happen naturally… If you want to know more about this and so much more, you are most welcome to join my upcoming “intro to accent and dialects” 3hr workshop with @realvoicela this Wednesday at 6pm PST.
