The magic of ✨ negative work ✨ (Eccentric) .. concentric performance is DEPENDENT on eccentric capacity. .. PS: These videos are multiple years old from Professor Ditch with long hair 🤣 .. #performance #sportscience #rehab #gains #fitness

Eccentric strength training (i.e. lowering supra maximal loads aka eccentric overload) can be an absolute cheat code for helping you jump higher and be a better overall athlete It helps you generate more “eccentric” impulse, which helps set you up to generate more propulsive impulse during the concentric phase so you jump higher. Besides improving MU recruitment and rate coding (neural coordination) during MTU lengthening, eccentric strength training also has some unique structural adaptions, such as increasing fascicle length, tendon stiffness, and connective tissue stiffness, all of which can support higher power outputs as I have talked about in earlier videos. However, this type of training is VERY fatiguing due to stretch induced calcium ion channels causing massive amounts of lasting calcium ion related fatigue (muscle damage + CNS fatigue), which is why it’s important to program it carefully & for well prepared athletes. You also don’t want to detrain concentric strength in the process! Which is why at THP we run a long conjugate sequence system periodization model to ensure we don’t detrain key performance qualities while others are being emphasized 🚀if you’re ready to jump higher, run faster, and train like an Olympic athlete, sign up for personalized training at THP Strength! #sportsperformance #fitness #sportsscience #strengthandconditioning #sports #training #athlete #strengthtraining #basketball #dunk #volleyball #football #trackandfield #strength #speedtraining #athleticperformance #strengthcoach #injuryprevention #sportsperformancetraining #kneepain #performancetraining #speed #workout #sport #plyometrics #personaltrainer #physicaltherapy #physicaltherapist #dunking #jumping

You’ll always be a lot stronger on the eccentric versus the concentric, so you’ll never get close to failure on that portion of the rep during a normal set. A controlled eccentric can help to minimize joint strain and keep your reps consistent, but the real growth comes from the concentric. 📱 Eliminate all the confusion around building muscle and losing fat with my complete TrainWise System. Inside the app you get: - Structured low volume high intensity programs (2-4 days per week, works for beginners to advanced) - Step-by-step progression for consistent strength gains - Simple nutrition targets (no extreme diets or restrictions) - Workout tracking, exercise tutorials, and 150+ recipes all in one place - Adaptable to any equipment (full gym or basic home setup) The same evidence-based system that’s helped thousands of people achieve their goal physique with maximum efficiency. 👉 Comment or DM “PLAN” to find out more. Eccentric vs Concentric Reducers in Pipeline Engineering Reducers may look simple, but choosing the wrong type can lead to air pockets, flow disturbance, cavitation, and maintenance issues. This infographic highlights: Key differences between Concentric and Eccentric reducers Where each type should be used in pipelines Flow behavior, drainage, and alignment considerations Practical design logic used in real engineering projects Note: This infographic is Al-generated, and while Al helps visualize concepts quickly, engineering judgment, codes, and field experience are always essential. If you notice anything that can be improved or corrected, please share your insights - learning together makes us better engineers. What's your rule of thumb? Concentric for vertical lines? Eccentric (flat on top / flat on bottom) for pump suction? This session is built around how athletes produce, absorb, and redirect force. We train fast force production for speed and explosiveness, starting strength to create power from zero momentum, and asymmetric loading to improve real-world force transfer. We intentionally load the eccentric side to build braking capacity and tissue resilience, then challenge non-reactive power so athletes can produce force without relying on balance. Single-leg control and coordinated acceleration and deceleration tie it all together as true athletic development, not just weight room strength. #AthleticDevelopment #ForceProduction #ForceAbsorption #ForceRedirection #StartingStrength #EccentricTraining #BrakingCapacity #TissueResilience #AsymmetricLoading #SingleLegStrength #Acceleration #Deceleration #SpeedAndPower #TrainForSport #GRITAthleticTraining

Another one of my favorite ways to make the eccentric phase of a movement more effective TYPE "ECCENTRIC" IN THE COMMENTS SECTION FOR A FREE DOCUMENT ABOUT THE SCIENCE AND PRACTICE OF ECCENTRICS

Increasing Load is Not The Only Way To Progressive Overload, Try Tempo!✨ #calisthenics #strengthtraining #workout #mobility #goth

When you land, you aren’t absorbing force, you’re producing it eccentrically to control momentum and redirect motion. There are different ways to use eccentrics and help develop this quality – Tempo eccentrics - slower lowering submax loads to build control and positional strength. – EQIs (Eccentric quasi-isometrics) - holding an iso until failure and then resisting eccentric contraction for tissue tolerance and motor control. – Overspeed eccentrics - using assistance or external load to increase the velocity of lengthening…higher neural demand – Supramaximal eccentrics - loads above your concentric max – Plyometrics - the most specific expression, training the ability to utilize the stretch shortening cycle. Each method stresses the body differently and the art is knowing when and how to use each. Get it wrong, and you just create fatigue. Get it right, and you build athletes who can control, redirect, and reuse force efficiently. Inside Speed Kills, I break down how to actually apply these methods, how eccentric strength, stiffness, and reactive ability come together to produce real speed, with full examples and an 8-week program that puts it all in motion. A movement that can be easily progressively loaded, executed at high forces, under rapid time opportunities - similar to that of sporting demands and is fun? Sounds like a no brainer to me In this experiment, I compared the bounce variation to hang and standard pulls from the ground. Each variation has their unique benefits and will be beneficial throughout an athletes programming. The unique stresses of the bounce method created higher peak force, rate of force development and thus acceleration demands in time frames similar to that of various other athletic movements - an environment that is difficult to create in the confides of a gym and only tends to be achieved through some plyometric movements. Like many other high intensity training methods, this can be another useful method to close the gap when preparing for explosive athlete performance. Caution should still be taken with a movement like this, I would only recommend for athletes with extensive gym experience, solid strength & power qualities and take time to build tissue contact resilience when introducing the movement to avoid contusions. #olympiclifting #clean #snatch #strengthandconditioning #olylifts

Deloads work, you just need to know the rules. Rule 1: You need to load before you deload. If you are not lifting heavy enough or working hard enough, you have not earned the need for recovery. In the first 6 to 12 months of training, most lifters do not need a deload. Rule 2: The best deload strategy is not taking an entire week off. Save the full week off for when life forces it on you, such as illness, travel, or unexpected events. Rule 3: The most effective approach is to reduce volume, not intensity. Cut your sets in half while maintaining or even slightly increasing load. This method is backed by tapering research on powerlifters and ensures you recover without losing strength. The reason deloads get a bad name is that many people use them when they are not training hard enough to need one. That does not make deloads useless, it just means they are being applied incorrectly. At the highest level, every serious lifter uses some form of deload before competition, and then they go and set records. Check out this seven minute video where I provide an in-depth explanation of my deloading strategy and how to apply it to your own training. Save this post for reference. #deload
