Black widow spiders are starting to pop up now that the snow has melted away. This should mean some good meals coming up for my venus fly traps. You can see the speed this trap closed with. They seem pretty healthy, and in full predator mode for these indoor plants. Really excited to get some more feedings for these plants before spring arrives!! #carnivorousplant #tropicalplants #venusflytrap #flytrap #nepenthes drosera sundew cephalotus sarracenia pitcherplant plants houseplants tropical exoticplants rareplants australianpitcherplant garden exotic asianpitcherplant stickyplant flowers greenhouse grow carnivore hungryplants greenthumb nature swamp capensis cephalotusfolicularis

Sloppy catch for the venus fly trap will most likely mean that this will be the traps one and only meal. That is ok though. The plant will still get nutrients from the meal. But the spiders legs sticking so far out will give a higher chance to air getting inside the trap during digestion. Once these plants go into the greenhouse though, I do believe this will happen a lot less. While the plants being grown indoors look phenomenal, the greenhouse ones will absolutely without a doubt dwarf the size of the indoor plants. We're close to being able to go outside!! #carnivorousplant #tropicalplants #venusflytrap #flytrap #nepenthes drosera sundew cephalotus sarracenia pitcherplant plants houseplants tropical exoticplants rareplants australianpitcherplant garden exotic asianpitcherplant stickyplant flowers greenhouse grow carnivore hungryplants greenthumb nature swamp capensis cephalotusfolicularis

I really enjoy when the Venus Fly Traps get these amazing colors. This was by far the best I've grown these amazing plants indoors. And that speed π€―. So excited that temps are heating up, and prey is starting to become plentiful! #carnivorousplant #tropicalplants #venusflytrap #flytrap #nepenthes drosera sundew cephalotus sarracenia pitcherplant plants houseplants tropical exoticplants rareplants australianpitcherplant garden exotic asianpitcherplant stickyplant flowers greenhouse grow carnivore hungryplants greenthumb nature swamp capensis cephalotusfolicularis

AFTERMATH!! While cleaning up the plants from yesterday's video, I came across an old leaf with some black widow spider legs sticking out. This was a good opportunity to Crack it open and see what was inside. Although, it was pretty evident from the outside of the trap that the prey was most likely molded. This doesn't always happen when the plant doesn't get a perfect seal, but it greatly ups the odds of it happening. This could also happen from prey being caught late in the season before the plant goes dormant. #carnivorousplant #tropicalplants #venusflytrap #flytrap #nepenthes drosera sundew cephalotus sarracenia pitcherplant plants houseplants tropical exoticplants rareplants australianpitcherplant garden exotic asianpitcherplant stickyplant flowers greenhouse grow carnivore hungryplants greenthumb nature swamp capensis cephalotusfolicularis

Correction: I did get the spiders gender wrong. The swollen pedipals up front do confirm that this is a male spider, and not female. This makes so much more sense on why they were so close. Also I was not aware the male stops eating after a while, and that's why I thought they were so much smaller. I usually described them as "looking like they're starving). I didn't know they actually were starving. That being said, two thought come to mind.....that's the biggest male I've ever seen.......also I have a pregnant female spider very close π #carnivorousplant #tropicalplants #venusflytrap #flytrap #nepenthes drosera sundew cephalotus sarracenia pitcherplant plants houseplants tropical exoticplants rareplants australianpitcherplant garden exotic asianpitcherplant stickyplant flowers greenhouse grow carnivore hungryplants greenthumb nature swamp capensis cephalotusfolicularis

A little knowledge went a long ways for this year. By adding more light, the plants are notably bigger, healthier, thicker and faster. And all it took was simply adding 2 more light bars to the grow space. A whopping total of 36 more watts of L.E.D. π. made a huge difference. Can't wait to get these venus fly traps in the greenhouses in a couple of months. I can only imagine what this summer will look like in the carnivorous plant garden. π€ #carnivorousplant #tropicalplants #venusflytrap #flytrap #nepenthes drosera sundew cephalotus sarracenia pitcherplant plants houseplants tropical exoticplants rareplants australianpitcherplant garden exotic asianpitcherplant stickyplant flowers greenhouse grow carnivore hungryplants greenthumb nature swamp capensis cephalotusfolicularis

A little escargot on the menu today for the venus fly traps lunch. Let's see if adding more light to the plants makes a difference in being able to co some these little slime rolls. What happens when an insect is only half-caught by a Venus flytrap? Sometimes the trap closes⦠but the insect is not fully inside. The trap seals anyway, and what follows is one of the strangest feeding situations in the plant world. Here is a short extra clip from my latest video. Carnivorous Venus flytraps lure their victims with sweet-smelling nectar on their claw-shaped leaves. Inside the trap are tiny trigger hairs that fire an electrical signal β snapping shut in just one-tenth of a second. Most people think they understand how they work. Almost everyone is wrong about at least one crucial detail. If you actually want to grow a healthy Venus flytrap (and not accidentally kill it in a few months), I broke everything down step-by-step in my guide. Stop guessing. Start growing them the right way. πLink in bio. . @seeker . #VenusFlytrap #VenusFlytraps #venusflytraps #carnivorousplantnerds #dionea
