How to Propagate a Venus Flytrap . . . #sarracenia #darlingtoniacalifornica #cobralily #carnivorous #droseraceae #drosera #pygmydrosera #carnivorousplant #carnivoroustagram #pitcherplant #trumpetpitcher #northamericanpitcherplant #carnivorousplantsofinstagram #carnivorousplants #theflytrapgarden #trumpetpitcherplant #northamericanpitcherplants #carnivorousplantswag #insectivorousplant #sundew

Depending on whether you want to make seed or not, you can always rip off the flower stalk and propagate it to get an identical clone of your flytrap in case it’s a cultivar! I usually do this as flowering also takes a lot of energy away from the plant and will need time to recover the big traps it once had. Happy growing! #tutorial #carnivorousplants #flowers #pinguicula #prop #propagation #venusflytrap #dionaea #dionaeamuscipula #flytrap #showcase #howto #plants #plantlove #plantlife #insectivorousplant

3 essential things you need to know in order to keep your venus flytrap happy and healthy! 1. Soil 🪨 Make sure you switch out the normal soil that usually comes with it to carnivorous plant-friendly soil. You can find it on Amazon or make it yourself! They need nutrient-poor, acidic soil, an easy DIY mix is 50% sphagnum peat moss and 50%perlite. 2. Water 💧 Flytraps can only be watered with DISTILLED or rainwater, as regular water will kill them. They also need to be sitting in a bowl of water to mimic the conditions of their native bog habitats. 3. Sunlight☀️ While they say they can be kept indoors, they thrive in direct sunlight. Make sure they are not in the shade and can soak up the sun! #venusflytrap #plants #distilledwateronly

The Venus flytrap is a fascinating carnivorous plant found naturally in the wetlands of North and South Carolina, USA. It grows in nutrient-poor soil, so instead of relying only on the ground for food, it traps and eats insects. Its leaves are modified into jaw-like traps with tiny hair-like structures called trigger hairs. When an insect touches these hairs two or three times, the trap snaps shut within seconds. Once closed, the plant releases digestive enzymes that slowly break down the insect and absorb nutrients like nitrogen. After digestion, the trap opens again, leaving behind the insect’s hard shell. Each trap can close only a few times before it dies. The Venus flytrap shows how plants can adapt in surprising ways to survive in harsh environments. 🌱🪰 • Follow - @explainscience.ai • #instagram #study #studygram #education #student

Looking for more info? Read below! If you’ve ever bought one and watched it slowly turn black… you’re not alone. Here’s how to make yours THRIVE! 🌱 Full sun or Strong Lighting 🚫 No tap water, ALWAYS Distilled, rain, or RO water 🪴 Use the right potting mix, the one in the video is my recommendation, but theres many variations found online. Pot size matters! 3” deep pots work well for young plants while a 5” deep or deeper pot is best for larger plants. VFT roots grow down! 😴Venus fly traps need a dormancy during winter months to thrive every summer! Its important to keep them in cooler temperatures and supply less water during this time. Keeping carnivorous plants as pets? I kept going back to the pages of my science book which mentioned Venus flytrap and Pitcher plant when I was in school. Little did the 12 year old Indian Pet Keeper know that, one day, he would get the chance to keep and observe them so closely! Heartfelt thanks to @theshamanvalley for such amazing collection, quality and guidance (the plants don't even need repotting as they come fully established in their pots) The team is very knowledgeable and polite. 🌱 I got two varieties of Sundews and a Venus flytrap. I planned to feed these plants only for the video to showcase their behaviour. It is usually not recommended to manually feed them as they can catch their own food. Also, their primary food isn’t insects, it’s still sunlight and photosynthesis, but insects act as supplements. 🪰 They thrive in bright sunlight/grow light and only stay well when the water TDS stays below 50. And since they have evolved like this due to nutrient poor soil, any amount of nutrient can harm them. 🤒 . #pet #plants #animal #gardening #wildlife #insect

Any of you have a Venus flytrap at home? #5minutecrafs #planthacks #indoorplants #venusflytrap #plantparents #greenthumb

I’m convinced these are sold this way to get you to buy another once this one dies. I am a firm believer to buy plants where ever you can access them but if you’re looking for carnivorous plants ESPECIALLY Venus fly traps and you’re a beginner with them, save yourself the heartache and buy them from local nurseries or reputable carnivorous sellers online. Here some that I recommend: @carnivero @predatoryplants @california_carnivores VFT are one of the coolest carnivorous plants and they are awesome to own but they do need more specialized care and you won’t find that care in thee boxes. #venusflytrap #plantcaretips

Do you remember this little carnivorous bog? It was such a fun build but also I was so scared that it was just going to 💀 I had not been able to keep pings alive or Venus fly traps. Now I can safely say….i know what helps them thrive! They have grown so much!!!!! The pings are huge now and the Venus fly trap has grown sooooo many big traps. One, they need a lot of sunlight. I know people say they shouldn’t be together because of different light requirements but these are happily living together. They are on an east facing window where they get direct morning light for about 3-4 hours and indirect light the rest of the day. Two, they like their waterings and they like it fancy 😂 I give them distilled water, they would also like love rain water but I live in SoCal and we don’t have any of that at all right now. I don’t let it dry out ever. There is a water reservoir at the bottom made of perlite, I make sure that’s always filled. The Venus fly trap recently bloomed, which was a clear sign of happiness. I got a lot of messages saying I should just cut it off. I do this with all of my plants, but I had never seen it flower so I just wanted to let it flower once, so I could experience it. It was lovely, but now that’s done. I cut off the stem of the bloom and will most likely cut them off in the future, although I don’t think it affected the growth of the plant at all. I am also happy to report that I have not had to feed them at all 😂 They are literally eating all on their own! I see bugs on there all the time! Sometimes we open the sliding door while the kids are enjoying the balcony and they forget to close the screen. We live next to a creek and we get lots of bugs (mostly moths) in our house sometimes. The flytrap and the pings are doing a great job at getting some of those for us. Overall, I think Venus flytraps and pings are definitely great companions and I am so happy this big is thriving. I’m just scared for when I have to upsize 😬 #carnivorousplants #carnivorousplants #venusflytrap #pingicula #plantlover #plantlife #plantythings #planttips #plantytips #plantcare

Inside the carnivorous plant greenhouses the venus fly traps are pushing out a ton of new growth. With all that new growth theres a ton of hungry traps just waiting to snatch a meal. Now even though this venus fly trap is a no name typical that I bought many years ago, come summer time she will push out some mammoth traps. Ill be excited for that because as of lately we have seen a ton of times where the black widow spider has been able to walk on top of those lashes. But even with the spiders antics lately, we still ended this one with a clean catch 🔥🔥🔥 #carnivorousplant #tropicalplants #venusflytrap #flytrap #nepenthes drosera sundew cephalotus sarracenia pitcherplant plants houseplants tropical exoticplants rareplants australianpitcherplant garden exotic asianpitcherplant stickyplant flowers greenhouse grow carnivore hungryplants greenthumb nature swamp capensis cephalotusfolicularis

I recently gave my carnivorous plants a little treat since they’re finally starting to wake up from dormancy!! 🥳 Hopefully we get some new traps growing soon as spring approaches!
