Any behavior we’re trying to decrease should have a replacement behavior we’re trying to increase. But, more specifically, the replacement behavior should serve the same function as the original behavior! Being quiet is not a replacement for shouting out because it doesn’t access the attention, raising your hand and non verbal responding that elicits attention would be more appropriate! #behavior #behaviorchange #parents #parenting

Hitting! Does your child hit? For fun? For attention? When they’re mad? Let’s get into the why and what to do about it! #behaviorchange #behaviorblueprint #parents #parenting #kids

Most behavior struggles aren’t about defiance — they’re about unclear expectations and lack of structure. Try these instead: ✔ Choices → gives control safely ✔ When/Then → builds cooperation ✔ Expectations → prevents meltdowns Small language shifts = big behavior change. #parentingtips #positiveparenting #gentleparenting #parentcoach #momlife

In psychology, reinforcement simply means anything that increases the likelihood a behavior will happen again. If a child gets a strong reaction (even a negative one), that attention can unintentionally reward the behavior, making it more likely to repeat in the future. In behavior management training, you learn how to use your attention more purposefully! #parenting #psychology #pediatrics #psychologist

If we only focus on stopping behaviors, we miss the real lesson. Children don’t just need to know what not to do — they need to be taught what TO do instead. Replacement behaviors give kids the tools to express feelings, solve problems, and meet their needs in healthy ways. Because behavior is communication… and when we teach better skills, we get better behavior. ✨ #behavior #parenting #communication #child #education

Behavior is information.🌈♾️🧠 Decades of behavioral research show that consequences only change behavior when they match the function it serves. Neuroscience adds that stressed brains repeat what brings relief fastest. If a strategy isn’t working, it’s not a failure. It’s data.

Your child’s behavior isn’t the problem. It’s information. 👋 If you’re new here, hi, I’m Kaitlyn Diller, a licensed behavior analyst, and I’ve spent years working with parents and children using evidence based support to help them enjoy their days together again. When we label behavior as “bad” or “naughty” and jump straight to stopping it, kids learn to hide, fear consequences, and mask what they’re really struggling with. But they aren’t learning the actual skills that move them through life more easily. Behavior isn’t a bad thing. It’s something your child is showing you they need help with. And learning those things takes time, just like learning to tie their shoes, ride a bike, and write their name. Getting to the root cause of your child’s behavior is essential. Because every child is different, that’s why it’s so important to use strategies that work for them. Not a one size fits all solution. Without teaching your child the skills they need by focusing more on reacting to end the problem, families stay stuck in cycles of frustration and disconnection. But with the right tools for your child? That’s where you will finally start to see things change. Kids gain confidence, routines flow, and you reclaim those genuine moments of joy and connection you deserve. My mission is for you to be the most informed parent when it comes to truly understanding your child’s behavior. Parenting young kids isn’t easy, but daily battles don’t have to constantly take over your days. 👉If you’re ready to parent differently, the way you actually want to, then this account is for you. ✨ No more guessing, switching between being gentle and strict, or wondering if things are ever going to get easier. 💜 Tap follow and stay awhile.

We’ve all been there: the sudden meltdown in the grocery aisle or the total refusal to put on shoes. 🌀 It’s exhausting to live in 'reactive mode.' But once you understand the science of behavior, you stop feeling like you’re failing and start feeling like you have a roadmap. 🗺️ I want to support you in finding that calm, structured approach we all crave. #ParentingHacks #BehavioralAnalysis #ParentCoaching #LAmoms #BehaviorMatters

Over the past few weeks I’ve been teaching a group of parents and educators live inside my VIP Practical Parenting cohort. Every week they can ask me anything. But I don’t give them a script. I don’t hand them a one line answer. Because behavior isn’t solved by memorizing what to say. Most of the questions I get online sound like: “What do I do when my child does this?” “What consequence should I use for that?” And the internet is full of confident answers from people who have never had to actually make behavior change stick. They give a tactic that might shut behavior off tonight… but it’s back tomorrow. Inside the cohort I do something different. I teach you how to think. You will hear how I break things down, what I prioritize, and why certain responses matter more than others. And parents aren’t just coached on their own child. They learn by listening to other families, hearing the analysis, and watching the decision making process in real time. Because the goal isn’t fixing one behavior. It’s learning a framework you can use for every behavior that shows up next year and 10 years from now. The next cohort begins in April and spots are limited. If you knew this cohort would fundamentally change your life and your child’s life, you wouldn’t be debating it. You’d already be in. Comment COHORT and I’ll send you the details. #behavior #bcba #parentsofinstagram
